Hi, I'm fairly new in using a CDROM. I just picked up a
Phillips/Laser Magnetics CDROM (CM201) at an auction.
Now that I have it, I don't know how to use it. I've downloaded the
device drivers from the Phillips BBS, but I take it I need MSCDEX? Can
anyone tell me what the Microsoft CD Rom Extensions are? And where can I
get them?
Oh by the way if there is anything else I should know, I would
appreciate any help?

Microsoft Cd extensions just allow you to use a CD-ROM drive on a PC under
MS-DOS. You can download MSCDEX from CIS in the Microsoft Library forum.

MSCDEX is/are the Microsoft CDROM extensions. You can find the
latest version (needed if you are running DOS 5) in the Microsoft Library
(GO MSLIB) here on CIS.

Microsoft has said on GEnie that MSCDEX is no longer available for
downloading on any BBS. They also requested that anyone that finds it on a
board let them know. They add that MSCDEX is supposed to be obtained from
the hardware manufacturer of your CD-ROM drive. Sorry to be the bearer of
bad news!

Whoever said that is mistaken. MSCDEX v2.21, the latest version, is still
available for downloading from the Microsoft Software Library here on CIS
(GO MSL-1). The correct filename is CDEXT.EXE, 30192 bytes. Also available
in MSL-1 is DR0498.ZIP, a complete information pack for customizing MSCDEX
for your own drive, if such is desirable. It wasn't necessary for my
Mitsumi drive which works just fine with v2.21.
