Sony 541/Windows Problem
8 messages in this thread
I recently acquired a Sony CDU-541 cdrom drive. No software/drivers came
with the package. Do I need drivers other than MSCDEX to use itit with
Windows 3.1? I am having problems running anything off of the drive under
windows though I can copy files off of it with the file manager just fine.
Help?! Thanks in advance, Jeff L. Kiser
I run a SONY CDU-541 as well. You need a hardware driver specific to your
controller. Then you need MSCDEX Version 2.2 (I Think it's 2.2 anyway,
checkout the Microsoft Library and look for the version of MSCDEX for Windows
3.1)
Depending on the version of MSCDEX you use, you may need to remove the
LANMAN10 line out of the system.ini.
Hope this helps.

Clarke, I am using MSCDEX vers. 2.1 which I got from the Microsoft forum. I
believe 2.1 is the latest release but I'll check. I am using the driver
provided by DTC to use with their 3290 EISA caching controller, but sure am
not having any luck. Since you have a 541, do you know anything about
getting it to run Photo CD's? I read in the magazine High Color an article
in which the writer was using his 541 for this purpose, but gave no
specific info on his setup, drivers, etc. Thanks, Jeff L. Kiser
Jeff, I have read in the manual that the 541 supported the Kodak Photo-CD but
have not had an opportunity to try it out.
There was a number for Kodak floating around a week or so ago, that you could
call to get more info about the Photo-CD. Maybe some helpfull Forum member
can provide again? Or at least fill us in on Photo-CD.

Thanks Clarke. My manual says nothing at all about Photo-CD. Sure would
be nice if someone would give us that number.
I jumped in on this thread at the end…but if you are looking for a number
for Sony's CDROM division, then try:
Sony Peripheral Computer Products
(800) 222-0878
Keith.
Thanks a bunch Keith! Wonder why Sony publishes no numbers in
documentation? Jeff L. Kiser
Jeff, I don't know why Sony's Optical Division is the company's best-kept
secret…but it is. There are some very knowledgeable people at that
number but they don't want to let the world know of them. Glad to help
out. Cheers, Keith.
