#3D STUDIO on 50MHz M/C

Hello Craig Sharp, Thanks for your quick response. My problem is that I am
running 3D STUDIO ver 2.0 on a Compaq 486/50m (50 MHz machine) with HP
paintjet printer XL-300 connected to LPT1. Every thing works fine except
when I try the printing option (Hard Copy) I am getting the following
message : ******************* * Configuring ADI driver *
**************************** Do you want to configur I/O :(Y/N).
And the system hangs there. What I tried is changing the CPU board to
downgrade the computer to 486/33MHz (on Compaq computers you can do that by
changing one board), then every thing worked ok. It went through the ADI
driver configuration (where it use the hang befor). I conntact Compaq and
they said that they have it running ok on there 486/66MHz machine. Do you
have any driver upgrad for the HPpaintjet printer (RDPPJET.EXP) so it will
run on the 50MHz machine.

Well, I have never tried hard copy output from 3DS, but I have seen that
happen when I was using a graphics driver from 3DS 1.0 in 3DS 2.0… and I
don't think it had much to do with clock speed… but since you are
configuring I/O ports, who knows?
I don't work for Autodesk… but I help out here when I can. First, are you
using any memory manager on your system? (CEMM or QEMM, for example…).
Second, did you ever have 3DS 1.0 installed on your machine? Third, how
much memory do you have and how much free disk space do you have?
I don't know of any new drivers available for 3DS but I will look into
it…

I did not tried it with ver 1.3, but I think the problem is related to
the clock speed becuase when I installed the 486/33 CPU board everything
worked fine, with the same configuration i.e. software as well as hardware.
But when I tried to run 486/50 processor board on a slow speed (8MHz) it
did not work.
I am calling from Dubai ((United Arab Emirates located in the Arabian
Gulf).

Well… I think Kevin Krell's message is probably correct. Is there any way
that you didn't get the I/O card from Compaq? (Highly possible overseas, I
would say…).

Hi, The board is Compaq original since on the compaq you can not replace
this board with any other compatable one. I reviwed the sequance of the
problem and I think it has nothing to do with the I/O card since the
problem appears befor it tries to send any thing to the parallel port. It
must be somthing with the driver it self. I recieved an answer from the
sysop confirming that and he said that they have a fix for it.
May I ask you if you speaks Arabic or it is just few words you know?

Great… I didn't see that you received an answer so I'm glad you aren't
still looking for lost causes <grin>.
I used to speak more Arabic than I do now… I even knew how to say "I
don't speak much Arabic" <grin>. (Schway schway…?)
I learned Gulf Arabic in Saudi Arabia… don't know much classical
Arabic… I still yell "Yellah, yellah" at my son once in a while <grin>
I also want to say that we like to see international visitors here… makes
us feel important! <Grin>.

I have had problems with standard serial & parallel ports on 50MHz
machines. Even running the 66MHZ DX2, access is only at 33MHz, so that may
be OK. I'd try adding in a separate I/O card from a manufacturer that runs
successfully @ 50MHz.

I thought about that, too, but since he's using a Compaq I >assumed< that
he had a good quality I/O card…
