I've got a Mitsumi CRMC-LU002 CDROM drive and some Kodak Photo-CD discs that it won't read. Anybody know (besides Kodak, which says maybe) if this drive can read these discs with maybe a driver upgrade (I'm at v1.5 now) How about a phone number for Mitsumi since there isn't one in the manual. The drive was purchased maybe two months ago, so I was hoping it would work. Any help appreciated! Jersey Joe

There is speculation that Mitsumi will be introducing new hardware and/or software at Comdex next month. Will post any info that I find out in Las Vegas. Tom

We should have a list of all CD-ROM drive manufactures to put into the library so we can just refer people to the file rather than having to recall the many different companies. What do you think?

Good idea..hope the sysop is reading these threads and will take note. As I cruise around Comdex, I'll try to collect a list of whatever I can find and put them together when I get back. Actually, just the Mitsumi info can cover quite a few bases since Mitsumi is the OEM supplier for a number of brands, including Tandy, GenStar, Talon and heavens know how many others.

Albert: I agree we need a list. I have been working on sorting out the phone numbers I have for executive offices versus truly helpful customer services numbers. Any contacts you or others care to contribute that have gotten results I will compile and post ASAP. Rich Bowers OPA

Kodak maintains a hotline for compatible dives that they test and certify. Call 800/242-2424 ext 53. The first test of your drive is whether or not it is CDROM-XA compatible. If it is, it should be able to read the first session recorded on the Photo-CD. Multi-session drives are expected later this year.

Kodak was in the midst of testing the Mitsumi drive when I bought the software (I couldn't wait!) But apparently their drive is newer than mine (LU004 versus LU002) since theirs worked but mine didn't. I can't even read the first session. BTW I haven't a clue about what an XA drive is, nor multi-session recording (I assume the latter only happens on something like the photo-CD, which is added to as time goes by. I sure hope my Mitsumi is upgradeable, cuz I don't feel like replacing it. ($200 was too good to pass up, but maybe not good enough.)

I would certainly contact your vendor. It would seem appropriate to upgrade or trade for a new model introduced as close to your purchase as it apparently was. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice, Rich. I hope to be Photo-CD capable soon! Jersey Joe
