I've got a hold of 'C' source for GNU EMACS. If anyone cares, and wants to do
something about it, or tell me something about it, please leave me email; I
figured it out that if I can stay away from these SIGs for 4 months (and just
get on CIS to read my email) I could save enough money to buy another

I'm not familiar with GNU emacs, but have used GOSLING EMACS on VAX/VMS quite a
bit. I would love to port to AMIGA when I can afford one (prob. a month)(sigh)
if it is more complete than the microemacs available on the telcom dl here,
i.e. does it support the MLISP functionality of GOSLING? (MLISP was the
interpreted language used to extend the editor and provide your own functions,
etc.) thanks, frank
Do you have the source to Gosling Emacs?
I don't know if GNU Emacs support MLISP; I just got a hold of the
source a few days ago, and didn't get a chance to look at it.
I also didn't get a chance to look at Micro-Emacs. I'll do so now.

At CBM we've got a MicroEMACS running on Amy, with pull down menus
and everything; a really nice port (thanks to Andy Finkel). What's GNU EMACS
like. I've used the original Gosling EMACS back at school at Carnegie Mellon,
and I've been trying to get a legal source to hack around with (ME doesn't
support M-LISP or any of the redefinitoon stuff, or Electric-C). If the GNU
EMACS is PD or at least legally distributable I'd like to take a look at it.

Is the Micro-Emacs you're talking about the same one as the version
out in DL9, or is it a different one?? GNU Emacs is supposedly superior to
the Gosling version, but I wouldn't know. All I've got is the source, but I
can't run it yet as our VAX runs on VMS, and GNU is for a unix-type OS. As
far as I know GNU-Emacs is PD, and can be distibuted freely. The only
problem is how do I get you a copy. Source is pretty big, and it's on the
VAX. As soon as I get my Amiga (still waiting for CBM to deliver) I plan to
download the source to the Amiga, but till then I have no way of handling it.

On the chance of catching you with this before it scrolls… The EMACS
I used I believe originated with the same or a very similar PD MicroEMACS as on
DL9 here. Andy Finkle, all around software genius here in our software group
did the port to AmigaDOS. This includes pull-down menus and more standard
EMACS commands (similar to Goseling). I haven't actually used the DL9 EMACS,
but everyone says its not as good as Andy's. Still, its not like a full-blown
version — no M-LISP, no Electric-C. But when you get your Amiga (and I get
one at home) maybe you'd be able to DL it — I'd be interested in playing
around with a better EMACS implementation. No big rush — I've got many old C
sources awaiting my Amiga to run them they way they were intended to run (i.e.
NOT on a C128).
