I'm trying to find catalogs of cdrom software available. Is there some
place in this forum I could find/order some?
Several vendors have them in this forum. CD-ROM, Inc, Groupware and there
must be a few others too.

Gee Frank, where were you when I needed you? I just moved from Oak Park and
had an awful time finding CDs. Now that I no longer live there I see you
are right up there by the New York Bagel Bakery. If I order a CD can you
send along some pumpernickel bagels??? [We haven't had a decent bagel in
two months.]

There are dozens of CDROM product resellers, ranging from CDROM Inc. to
EDCUCORP to Dak to IBM and Sony who have developed their own distribution
catalogs. Check in the classifieds of MacWeek & -World, PCWorld etc for
ads.
Your question prompts me to get the OPA list of distributors posted in
the OPA library. I'll try to get that done in this coming week. In
the meantime, if you need a phone number or some other specific data
let me know.
Yes, I've seen ads in magazines. I guess I made a wrong assumption that the
cdrom sig on Compuserve might logically have a master listing of all cdrom
catalogs/distributors that one could access – to avoid the magazine
searches. I think this would be a good idea. You know, if you go to other
forums here, you do find similar listings.
I just started working with the Forum late last month, and we are
uncovering a variety of needs for information. Bear with us, and
we'll get there.

OPA
Rich,
Out of curiosity, who are you, what is OPA, and are you indeed a
sysop on this forum? Last we heard (months ago) it was Lupes out of
Discovery/Metatec.

We are apparently suffering a technical problem in getting the New Notice
posted which describes what has been happening, but briefly:
OPA is a non-profit trade and professional association, formed in 1988, to
support the CDROM publishers and related technology vendors, and to
encourage growth of the market place. A full description of OPA in in
Library #14 as memfrm.txt. I have come on board as co-sysop with Steve
Luper, and plan to be active in helping make connections, find answers to
questions, address issues etc. I certainly don't know it all, but I've
been in the CDROM business since 1985, and I know a lot of experts and
experienced people, who I hope to get involved in the Forum, to help both
the consumers and the producers that frequent this area.
Anything I can do to help or facilitate, please let me know. I understand
you publish legal/statute CDROM products?

The only problem with that is the field is so new that it is very difficult
tot find the distributors. We know that most of the ones that we deal with
are "not on any list". We are distributors for over 200 different disks,
and would bet that few companies would find us on any lists, because we
don't advertise in the rags. We sell direct and don't worry about being
found. When we have our 20×10 in a place like PC-Expo, people find us
rather easily. Frank
