Hi Martin; I,m Richard Sher … We meet at Rainforest Productions ehen I
was working on Chip and Peppers Cartoon Madness and you needed a FLI file
put on video.
Kevin Krell Says you love Q/FX… I'm thinking seriously of purchaseing it
and I was hopeing you could comment before I plunk down the bucks.
I am at 70740,10 I am at 310.475.4026 day and nite I hope your working

Richard,
Of course I remember you and the fun we had with the beta copy of animator
pro! <g> Yes, I am a big fan of HiresQFX and can't wait for the new version
3.0 to come out (very soon) which has a revamped interface (a bit like
Windows but way faster) and lots of new features. If you buy it, buy
version 3.0 – highly recommended. What paint/imaging software are you using
now?
I'm doing a lot of architectural work these days, and a little bit of
entertainment work. I'd like to do more of the latter type of work but the
architectural stuff pays the bills….
Martin
Martin,
PMJI. I've heard a lot of references to HiresQFX on this Forum – always
good references.
Since I haven't had a chance to show my ignorance today, what is HiresQFX?
How does it help a 3ds2/AAPro based operation?
Thanks very much,
Terry
Richard,
HiResQFX is an image processing, special effects and digital
photocomposition program that operates directly (and quickly!) on the
Truevision Targa, Targa+ and ATVista graphics boards. You can edit
high-resolution images (in RAM + virtual disk operations using PharLap).
Max. file size is theoretically 32Kx32K pixels at 32 bits. Multiple
windows allow cut & paste transfer from file to file. Alpha channel is
fully supported, and HiResQFX has a cpmplete set of masking tools.
Features include color correction (color and contrast controls), special
effects (glows, emboss, posterize, remap colors, sharpen, blur, shadows,
transparency, scaling, etc. It supports the Wacom pressure-sensitive
stylus for soft edge & hard edge airbrushing, and various other paint or
retouch functions.
Other tools include color ramps & spreads, multiple undo/redo, batch
operation, user-definable filters, and an object-based DRAW mode, with
lines, bezier curves, ovals, etc. The Draw objects can be created, then
scaled, rotated skewed, repositioned, etc. before placing into the raster
file. All onjects can be filled with solid colors, ramps, bitmap images,
etc. with variable transparency.
Targa/Targa+ version lists for $1000; ATVista 4M version lists for $1250.
The product is commonly available from Truevision dealers. Version 3.0 is
shipping for both platforms.

Kevin,
Thanks very much for the exhaustive description. We'll look around the
neighborhood (S. Florida) for a demo of the product. Again, thanks for all
your time in answering the question.
High regards,
Terry
Richard,
Kevin answered all of your questions more reliably than I would have, bless
him <g>. The only one he didn't address was how it could help you if you
already have 3ds/anipro. I would say if you do any kind of 24-bit true
colour output then you will need some kind of post-processing tool to
modify frames or high rez stills. Animator pro just doesn't offer that –
it's great for 8-bit output and even creating simple texture maps where the
256 colour limitation is not a problem. HiresQFX is probably the best tool
I know for the money which has great tools for editing single, or multiple
frames in it's batch mode, at 24-bit or 32-bit. Most other programs ignore
or refuse to accept 32-bit targa files therefore the transparency you can
give materials in 3ds is lost when you composite over another image in
24-bit packages. HiResQFX can use the alpha-channel in composition work,
for example if you had a house with glass windows in 3ds and rendered
against a black background and saved as a 32-bit .tga file, the image could
be composited easily in HiresQFX and the glass would show the underlying
image through it, but the walls would be opaque. Try that with Photostyler
– you'd have to do some fancy moves to create a similar effect.
Hope that answers the question.
Martin
Martin…
Your reply sure DOES answer my question. We're looking for a local (+/- 500
miles) dealer to demo the product. Thank you very much for the information.
Regards,
Terry
Is Ron Scott the brother of your wife <g>? (I don't know how to say cu$ado
in english) Seriously, HiRes is one of the best programs I've ever seen.
Ana
ps. I don't know what happened with the images! I send them! Believe me.
Try this weekend (grumble,grumble)
No, Ron Scott is not my "brother-in-law" but I feel a lot of admiration for
someone I have never met or spoken with. Maybe he's my godfather? <g>.
Que paso con tus images? It's not fair making me wait like this, savves?
=;-)
Martin
I think that was my fault. Estoy consternada (I guarantee you that you
can't find that in a dictionary <g> is something like estoy muy, muy, muy
triste 🙁
Please, check it this weekend. Saludos!
Ana
