#Ami 600 Memory

I got a small tour of the company that's building memory expansion modules
for the Ami 600 and I am highly impressed. The card is about the size of a
credit card, maybe a little thicker to accomodate the connector, and it
holds 2MB of ram! Slick… An indication of how well the 600 is doing (so
far only in Europe) is the fact that the company is highly pleased with the
number of expansion cards they are selling. The 600 is, I understand, due
to be released in the U.S. this fall some time. (Isn't it already fall?).
The 600 is a nice package, incidentally. Reminds me of a super C-64.

The 600 was released here in the US last month around the time of WOA
in Pasadena. Creative was selling them at the show.

The 600 is available here in the U.S.
The A600 isn't available in the US yet????!
Both the bare system and the 40 megs HD version are available since first
week of January here in Canada!
I was almost sure they were available in the US too! Strange…
I just finished setting up a 600HD for my wife, so I can confirm that the
600s ARE available here in the US. Got mine at Infotronics in Woodbury
CT.
A600HD upstairs and an A4000 for me downstairs. Boy are we doing are part
to help CBM and get this economy going – or what! 😉

Paul, you're not the only one. I just picked up a 600 to replace the 2000
my wife uses (I'm trying to sell the 2000) and I have a 3000, waiting to
buy the 4000 perhaps before the end of the year – 600, 3000, & 4000 for
two people. Phew!

I had my 2500 presold to a friend before getting the 4000. The 2500 payed
for my wife's 600HD, 1084s, and a modem. It is the perfect system for her.
All she needs it for is wordprocessing and using Aladdin to access the
quilting roundtable on "that other network" ;).

I have a 600! Does anyone know what is required to add an internal hard
drive? I assume it will need a 2 1/2" mechanism (IDE), but I don't know?

You will need to have a service center install the harddrive. You will
need a new ROM and the drive. Your service centers should be able to get
all that stuff for you. If you need a listing of service centers in your

I have a 40 Meg IDE drive right beside my 600 now. If it isn't user
installable, I'll just put it in one of my other computers and let my 11
year old play games on the 600.
