We just received our in-store A4000 yesterday and let me tell you that the
HAM8 images look GREAT!!!
One thing to note… there is a problem with HD transfer rate… I get no
more than 50kbyte/sec… there most be something wrong there… it should
be in the 500-900k range… it may be in the mask value… we will have to
call Commodore Tech Service tomorrow.
Does anybody have the same problem??
Some of the A4000s shipped with the hard drive formatted with the OFS.
Back up, reformat the partitions with FFS and restore, all should be

Yep! Reinstalling the systeme on the harddrive gave me back the transfert
rate I expected (~650k/sec) with the IDE drive of the A4000… I still
haven't found the way to make my syquest drive (connected to a A2091) to
go over 50k/sec… I know it has to be in either the MASK or MaxTransfer
values… but which one is the correct value!??? Big questions!

Pat, I have a A2091 in my A4000. The problem is that the controller
cannot DMA to fast ram on the 4000. Your transfers are buffered in chip
ram, some people are reporting some speed increases by adding 512K or
so ram (16 bit) to the board. I can't test that because I only use the
A2091 for my CDROM and Tape drive. Good luck.
I saw something strange yesterday on my A4000 equiped with the A2091…
Quarterback transferts are in the 500-900k/sec with the same Syquest
compared to about 50k/sec in Amiga DOS…. STRANGE!!?
I will try adding some 16 bits fast ram on the controler.
It *might* help to toss in some Zorro2 fast ram.

Has anyone tried GVP series II 8 meg scsi in a 4000 ? I wonder..
How would this auto configure in to the system memory.
I run 8 meg 16 bit, 8 meg 32 bit ram on a 2000 040 system,
it works great most of the time. Still wish I could get VM for
my 040 sys.
I'm definately going to buy an AGA system when theres a
"power up" deal…..

John, why don't you call Innovatronics and ask them when Gigamem will
support the 68040? According to them, they are supposed to have that by the
end of this year. That would solve your VM problem.
