#Targa+ vs. Vista

Can someone give me a quick comparison of the features of a Targa 64+ and a
Vista or Vista+ (maybe VistaPro, can't remember). I have on order a Targa
64+ but then just recently got an offer to buy a used Vista and Vista+.
What are the differences between them, which one would you recommend?
The guy I talked to said the only differences are that the Vistas have
better resolution, but don't have the SVHS and Composite outs that the
Targa+ has. They only have RGB out, which means I would have to get an
encoder to go out to video. I find it hard to believe that these are the
only differences since the price of a Vista is almost double that of a
Targa+. I kind of need this info ASAP, so I can change the order if I need
to, so any help would be extremely appreciated.

The Targa/Targa + will do 512 x 486 x 24 bit happily. The Vista will do up
to 1024 x 768 x 32 bit, or 756 x 486 x 24 bit for video work.
The Vista with 4 megs memory does need an encoder, or just plug it into a
CRV system directly (best quality). The Vista does real-tiem pan and zoom
in programs like TIPS and Hi-Res QFX, and has an extremely stable output.
It will also work at 512 x 486 if you desire.
Is it worth the extra money? Depends on who you ask, and what you will be
using it for. I personally think it has a better output than the Targa,
even if both are set for 512 x 486.

Is the 1K mode interlaced?,If so, then I will stick with Hercules Chrome
for 1152x900x24 bit. No video out though…

Yes, the 1024x768x32 bit mode is interlaced. But I still prefer it with
HiRes QFX to anything out there at 1152x900x(only)24 bit!!!
We run it on the Mitsubishi 21" monitor with a long persistance phosphor,
and you can't even tell it's interlaced (ok, just a little!) But the fact
that it goes out to video (and the monitor displays video resolution) works
for me!
Don't get me wrong – we had a beta of the Herc Chrome, and it's a great
card. I just need the video and the 32 bits for alpha channel.

I just met her once. Looks like a good time from this end, also. Of
course, I'm so quiet and shy I hope I don't get nervous talking in front of
all those architects…

talk, but it is in Philly. I told them I'd make it, but I can't say I'm
excited… Maybe we can organize one of those famous 3DS beer bashes after
the June event…
Do you think we can get Gary to buy? Especially after all these IPAS
sales???
Wherezat? In Philly? Next year at NCGA? (unfortunately, I'm probably not
going to be there… but HEY! Siggraph's in Anaheim next summer! … That
will be like old-home week.)

to Anaheim but mine is larger. I guess we will flip a coin…

That should be a lot of fun… maybe I can make it to both places, since I
want to see both of your hangouts. How many people can fit into your new
