I read through your file on the A4000 and enjoyed & appreciate your
input, very valuable to someone looing to upgrade to one of these pups.
I had a revelation, but I'm not really savvy with the system
hardware to know if it would work or not…
I have a Commodore Display Enhancer. Insert in video slot in new
A4000. Vollia! Instant De-Interlaced screens without all the tedious
mucking about with software… It basically comes down to a question about
how the color/video information is passed to the board by the system, but
if it works then the only thing I don't like about the A4000 is the IDE
slot!

Don,
I did just that! The 2000's video slot is a subset (shorter than) of
the 4000's video slot. The display enhancer does work, but with
limitations. Since it is not designed for the AGA modes and is not getting
all the data from the 4000's video slot it does not like like HAM8 and the
color resolution is reduced. Now if you have two monitors you could plug
your multisync into the display enhancer and your 1084 into the rgb port
for graphic display.

Your revelation is on the right track.
This will (probably) work. The catch (there's a big one) is that the older
dinterlacers are 12-bit accurate – the new modes will look poor to
terrible.

That's interesting. I can't wait for the benchmarks to show just how slow
the A4000 modes might be. Or how fast…

Sounds to me like a hardware delacer is a prime candidate to be one of the
first 3rd party A4000 only cards to become available. Even thou the AA
(excuse me, I mean AGA :> ) chipset can delace most screens, it can't do
so with some earlier software, and even so it does it at a cost of some
speed. Once a delacer is available for the A4000, I'll probably buy one as
well as a 4000 to put it in.

I think a delacer would be just peachy. I'd get one right off the bat. For
the 2x display bandwidth I'd pick up in the more useful display modes, and
so I could use a less expensive monitor.

Ben, Hello again a probably dumb basic question. Should external genlocks
for the 2000 work on the 4000? Also wonder if the chromakey + will work on
the 4000? -dan
It's very likely that an external genlcok will still work. CBM went to
great lengths to keep the port similar, if not the same. Chromakey, I
don't know – never had my hands on one.

ben, I just had a chance to do a brief test. I am using a Gen-one genlock
with the Chromakey + All images using 256 colors and below show up fine.
However HAM and HAM8 images show red and green lines in the dark parts
of the image (not sure about exact colors ,dark parts were hair on a
person) If this some sort of weird fringing? IF I disconnect the
Chromakey/genlock the images look great of course.

I'm surprised that the HAM8 stuff would exhibit any probelms. Doesn't
sound right, somehow.

Ben, Both HAM and HAM8 have problems. I'm going to test the genlock by
itself without the Chromakey+ and see what happens. -Dan

Don't have a genlock (or 4K), but could the problem be color register 0 is
being used where it shouldn't?

We succesfully used a SuperGen with our in-store A4000. Works fine!
Well tested the 4K with just the Genlock and no Chromakey+
Still have problems in both HAM and HAM8 mode.
The 4000 also has a LIVE! card in it
This setup worked fine in the 2000 +'040
Some video ripples showed up on the right side of the 1960
Would using a 1960 instead of a 1084s make a difference?
Is the 4000 picky because the LIVE! card is installed?
or perhaps the GEN-ONE genlock just does not agree with the 4K

The Live! card is probably the source of the problems based on comments I
have heard er read.
