Some of us were sitting around one night wondering why Tandy came out with
VIS… and our experience with being in on previous Tandy new-machine
decisions made us come to this (somewhat tongue in cheek, but not at all
unbelievable) conclusion: that when the MPC specs got upgraded suddenly to
a 386 cpu, Tandy got stuck with zillions of 286s. Thus, VIS was born 🙂
Re: Tandy and VIS. There is some logic that is simply to formidable to
dispute!

VIS was already planned when the spec was changed. I was amazed that Tandy
went along with the change, but Tandy says that VIS has the performance of
a 16-MHz 386, except in video, which is even better. From the VIS demos
I've seen, I believe them.

I'll concur with the VIS performance figures. We ran some digital video
stuff on the VIS and it matched my 25MHz 386 system. Nice SVideo signal as
well..
