We need a CD-ROM drive that is MPC compliant, does the Kodal Photo CD thing
and to get it to work under Windows NT (and/or Workgroup) it needs to be
SCSI 2.
Then I guess the sound card and video card has to match. Of course we want
the video to do 1024×768 (at least) and it has to be accelerated. Then
their is a Modem/Fax 14.4 that has to fit. How about motion video from the
VCR and VTR.
At this rate — a 486-50MHz motherboard and 16MB RAM. Cheap in comparison
to all of the above.
No wonder things have a hard time working together.
Anyway the original question was going to be is their a CD-ROM drive that
meets the specs above? Is their a sound card?

The Toshiba 3301b is SCSI-2, and on the NT support list. You might want to
go over to the WINNT forum and download the list of supported hardware from
the library. One very important thing is the SCSI controller. I have the
Adaptec 1542b, which is also on the supported hardware list for NT. I
expect to load NT within a week or two. I have a lot of disk maintenance to
do first.
In order for sound to work under the current version of NT, you must have
SCSI-2 CDROM.
Do not expect to use the SCSI port on a sound card with NT anytime soon.

By the time we see NT – all will be well???? Maybe by then everyone will
be supporting it. Hate to keep buying CD-ROMS drives – to keep up with the
latest.
I seem to have made a good choice with the Toshiba though. They can even
upgrade the roms to allow multi-session photo CD. While it is true that the
transfer rate is only 150K, this is about the only drawback I can see on
this drive at this time. And I got it for a real good price. Steve
