Not so revolutionary. There have been discussions about other Business directories on CD-ROM here on Compuserve for weeks. Phonedisc has been the most talked about. Does your business directory disc also provide street addresses? Can mailing lists be generated? Is sorting by SIC codes allowed?

THe disc that we sell … PRO Phone does all of the above. Was released in August of theis year, and has unlimited access. All for $179 Frank

Well, Gee, I found out. (We carry many titles, cant try them all) Amer. Business Phonebook allows primary search my Company name and phone number, also includes SIC Codes. Secondary searches (to narrow down hits) can be done by city, state, zip. Hope this helps.

However be aware that the program does not give unlimited access to those records. Once you reacha a certain count it locks you out of the program until you pay a royalty! Frank Computron Ltd.

And be aware that it locks you out of the program by means of a rather primitive hidden file secreted on you HD. If you are not careful something could happen to that file and Phone Book would have to start all over again. I would never advocate tampering with copyrighted material, but I do believe I have a right to delete unwanted files from my own HD. Even files I'm not supposed to know about and which would stay to clutter it until the next low-level format if I didn't delete them.

I noticed that, my question is, how can they prevent you from re-installing the software? Its not like they can write something to the CD ROM???

Can you search by the Government code? Can you search by yellow page title. For example I want to search for all Mortgage Companies, Mortgage Brokers, S&L's, Banks. Can these be searched and printed or sent to a file? Will it make labels? Will it print more then one screen at a time? How is the data base – is it ASCI, dBase, etc? Finally is this the PROPHONE product. Like your $89 special but don't need Grolier and World Atlas. Will you include Business Phone instead. Thought I would ask. Thanks Don

Will I substitute The Phone book for Groliers and World Atlas? Sure! Why not? I am not very knowledgable on what the disc will do, but I have the phonedisc set available which I know will do all that, yet it is FAR more expensive.
