I am working on an article for PC Upgrade magazine concerning programs
that play Audio CDs in regular CD-ROM drives. If you make such a program

Take a look in section 7. There are hardware direct players for Hitachi
drives which use the PC bus to Hitachi bus interface. DA.EXE and DA3.exe
There are other player programs not here, and a updated version of DA3.exe
which fixes a few minor bugs. Can get them to you if interested. The
first programs were Forthplay (4thplay.com) and Romplay.bas released in
late 87 and early 88, and commercial programs like CD-play from Compact
Disk Products.
