#Toshiba w/ UltraStor
6 messages in this thread
I thought I had a problem solved, but I,m back again. The consensus I got
was that A Toshiba 3301B should work with an UltraStor SCSI controller so
long as the Ultra Stor had an ASPI manager. However -my vendors
distributor claims that the Toshiba works only with its own proprietary
controller. Does anyone else out there actually use the Toshiba with any
thing other than Toshiba's controller? Has anyone su8ccessfully used the
Toshiba with an UltraStor controller. Help me please, I'm getting boggled!
You might try the IBM hardware forum, Ultrastor reps are usually in the
forum everyday.
Thanks. I am checking there too. But I really want to know what Toshiba
owners themselves have experienced in the real world, not what controller
vendors say OUGHT to work.
I am using a Toshiba XM3301B, which should be the same as your drive. I
am using it with a Sumo Systems SCSI controller which cost me all of 79
dollars. The Sumo card handles my floppies, 200 Meg hard drive, and the
CD-ROM without a hitch. It requires no software drivers for the hard
drive, either. I think your vendor is all wet!

Do you have any contact info about Sumo Systems? Or the dealer from whom
you bought it?
Thanks.

Thanks for the info on using your Toshiba 3301 with a non-Toshiba
controller. I assume you did not get the Sumo controller as part of a
package (could Sumo make Toshiba's controller, I doubt it). MY dealer
believes me, its HIS wholesaler who's causing the confusion.
