#VXL30
8 messages in this thread
There is a review of the VXL 30 in the October Amazing/Vol.7 No. 10.
I've got it but I was hoping to get some info from someone who has one or
used it. Thanks for the info though! TED
Ted,
I have a VXL-30 in use. I don't have any 32 bit memory though (the
board is new and I haven't been able to budget one yet.)
When I got my board, it didn't work. I kept sending it back to
Microbotics, and it kept coming back not working. Then, just before they
released the RAM-32 board, they did some modifications and the board came
back working.
It does give a noticable speed increase over the 68000, and I'd guess
32 bit memory would give a major increase over what I already see. I
haven't benchmarked it against anything though.
One thing I don't like about it is the round pins it uses to fit into
the 68000 slot. It takes a little wiggling to make contact with all the
contacts in the socket, and doesn't seem all that stable. Once it is in,
it doesn't seem to pop out unexpectedly, but it looks mechanically
unstable.
I'm not sure what questions you had on the VXL (I must have skipped
over the original message), but hope this helps some.

A buddy of mine has a VXL30 on his A500 and has replaced the original '030
chip with a 50Mhz '030. After a long and frustrating wait for the RAM card
to be available, he is pleased with his VXL30 purchase. What kind of info
are you looking for?

I was just looking to see how much of a performance increase you get from
it.
I would say the VXL30 it is as fast as any other '030 card at the same CPU
speed. If you don't need a co-processor, the Adspeed is pretty good for
the price and it will hold you till prices drop on '030 cards.
