I need some help/info on the 1950 monitor. My monitor seems ill.
The screen remains black after initial startup, or the screen will work
correctly and then fade out after 1-2 minutes of operation. This illness
started yesterday. I called my dealer this A.M. and he said he has 4 units
sitting in the shop with the same illness. He has had difficulty getting
info from the manufacturer to remedy the problem.
Have you run across this problem before?
Is it cheap/or expensive to fix?

I had a problem with the 1950 & my 3000..it keep going black. So we put it
away & got another monitor. The other day I was at my 14 yr old computer
boy friend's house looking at his new sub notebook attached to a big
monitor. He said "recognize it"?; The 1950 was working beautifully on his
sub note bool machine (a IBM clone)! It has not been fixed or touched in
two yrs. I would guess there is a connection problem with the Amiga that
is not affected by the other machine. BTW my techhie could not fix it for
my Amiga.

Hmmm, strange stuff. Tonite, my monitor seems to work after warming up for

OK I'll add my 1950 story. I also experience the "fuzz out and fade to
black" problem. I sent it to my dealer a year or so ago where it sat on
his bench and worked perfectly for two weeks. I've been using it ever
since with occasional fade outs. The fade outs seem to be related to
relative humidity. They never occur in the winter (too dry inside when the
heat is on) and only occur in summer when it is cool enough to turn off
the air conditioner (which also lowers humidity) and open the window. A
cool damp summer day will bring on the fade outs! Go figure.

Well, my environmental circumstances are opposite from yours. I live in
Miami and right now its cool and dry. Maybe a northern gremlin came down
south to warm up. 🙂 This is the first problem I've had in almost 4 yrs.
I opened it up yesterday and checked all the little multi-pin connectors,
there was 1 that was partially unseated, so I thought "ahhhh got it".
It worked fine the rest of the day. Tonite I get home from work and fire
it up, starts up OK and then fades after about 3 minutes. Then about 2 min
later the screen comes on and seems stable.
I guess I'll open it up again and search for this critter a wee bit more.

Being right next to the ocean I'll bet that even on "dry" days the
relative humidity is pretty high. You could run a test by closing the
windows and cranking up the AC the really drying out your place and see if
that makes any difference.
Whatever the cause it seems obvious that these 1950s are a little
flaky!

Yeah, our low humidity is about 44%. I just thought it odd, as during the
really hot sweltering days, the monitor worked fine (w/out A/c). So the
next test is with the freeze spray and find the gremlin. This little guy
seems to like to work after he's warmed up for a few minutes. As to their
flakiness, I just wish there was some tech support from the original
manufacturer, so my dealer could handle it.

Why isn't there tech support from the original manufacturer? C= never
manufactured monitors, just put their name on them.
In the earlier days, CBM was pretty good at supporting dealers who wanted
to fix monitors. Someone (who's name I unfortunately forgot) at CBM dealer
support even pulled a delay line from a broken 1084 & sent it to me so I
could fix a customer's machine. But it got to the point where CBM just
wanted to do a swap on the whole unit. And if you did figure out how to
get ahold of Daewoo, or AOC, they wouldn't talk to you at all. Philips was
a better story, you can get flybacks for the 1084-p from them.

The info my dealer gave me is he has been unsuccessful at getting info
from AOC to help him fix 1950's.
On another note, is your InterNet book available thru book stores?

From what you've said about your "techhie", now and in the past, I'd sure try
to find another one. If that failed, you'd probably be better off with none
than that one.
