Mike,
Despite the brevity of your answers you still provide more info than the
customer service lines.

Don,
What is it that you are looking for from the Customer Service Line, If
you have a complaint please let me know, out goal is to be as informative as
possible. We pride ourselves in doing a good job for the user. I must admit
that some users do have rather time wasting questions which show that they have
not spent anytime with the manual or the fine art of experiemtation. If you
have any problems you are always welcome to ask for me, I will do my best to
help. Less brief,
Mike
It's just that when I first received the program they would not
help me at all since I have the OpalVision version of the program.
They said I had to call OpalTech who luckily were extremely helpful.
The program was somehow defective & OpalTech supplied replacements.
Then later I called Impulse after receiving the upgrade offer to
ask if OpalVision would be supported in the new version (especially
after the negative attitude the first time I called). They said that
that would be up to OpalTech. I called OpalTech & they said that
they didn't see any reason why it shouldn't be supported.
I see no reason why we would not support the Opal Vision.
The programmers are not real fond of the board and from time to time
make snyde comments about it. However programmers tend to like what
the designed (firecracker 24) and not the competition.
I am sure that you will be happy with the results. I must
admit that Creative may think that the board deserves more and better
treatment from us. I assume that they would like some enhancents
that we either dont understand or arent give the time to do. They
assume that the board is the end of the earth as they should, we
preceive it as another display card. I appreciate that you have one
however not everyone has one and we get requests for support from all
over the planet for this or that product.
We will support Double A and Ham E and the rest, as we move to
94 we are going to appraoch this mess of different boards in a
different manner, I trust you will stay tuned.
Mike,
What drew me toward the OpalVision was 1.) the price, 2.) Imagine
included free, & 3.) The included paint program. The paint program alone sets
OpalVision apart from the rest of the boards. In fact the paint program is so
good I would say that it alone was worth the price of the board. The fact that
I got Imagine too was a real bonus. I look forward to upgrading to 3.0 now
that I know OpalVision is supported.

you're right, it's fruitless for a user to complain about any
aspect of your operation without including details; only then can a
complaint be (possibly) turned into a positive motivation for change.
I've had a few problems with your tech support personnel, and one
situation that comes to mind concerns Imagine. I hit upon a problem
while ray-tracing a scene, where a transparent plane with a logo
mapped onto it looked just fine, but its reflection in the water
showed black where the plane was supposed to be transparent. When I
phoned Impulse, I got nowhere with the tech person, who finally
suggested, in a bored tone, for me to send in a note and my scene on
a floppy. I did, and never heard from them again. As a result, I
stopped phoning tech support: I mean, what good did it do me? I spent
a couple of dollars on the phone call, a couple more on the floppy
and mailer, some time transferring my scene to a floppy, changing the
object pathnames and checking that it rendered properly. After all
that, the problem remains because Impulse never acted upon it. Chalk
up one useful effect I can't do with Imagine. Or can I? I'll never
know, because tech support never told me if there was a workaround,
or if Imagine is simply unable to properly combine reflection and
transparency.
There. You got details. Umm, now what?
I am sorry that you had a bad call, if I could I would take it
back. I make no excuses for the lack of help, it was our fault and I
accept all of the blame. We like you are only human and from time to
time people have bad days. You would not believe the amount of calls
we get from people where they are rude and abusive as well they have
not even tried to figure out the problem, they think that it is easy
to just call tech support, however you question is more than
resonable and I want to answer the question as best as I can.
From what you have written you were trying to see the
reflection of a transperency map on a water plane. I have never
tried that, I assume that it works, as I write this I promise you
that I will try it and see what happens, it ought to work. Honestly
you are the first person who has said they had this problem and I
have never tried it.
I will go try it and then I will get back to you.
Only as a final note, people do send us disks and videos showing us
problems, we try very hard to respond to those things because it shows
a willingness on your part to help us out. It is possible, it
happens all the time, that the illustrious mail service saw fit to
loose the goods. We seem to get mail for all kinds of companies
instead of what we were supposed to get. We have complained and I
think it has only made it worse, the postal service said that they
were only "human" and I sorta got the message. I will be glad to
send you a couple of blank disks, I will look up your address on the
user base and send them too you straight away.,
Our goal as a company it to do the best we can, even it we do
goof up now and then, I appologize. Give us another try, infact call
me direct when you need help, hopefully I can answer your question.
