At times with a disk already in df0: the drive will suddenly engage as
if I had removed the disk and then reinserted the disk. This is not the
normal polling of the drive. I can go days without this occurring and then
the df0: drive will kind of go crazy, grinning away over and over and then
stop. I'm not sure if its the drive that's going bad or possibly the disks
themselves, some of which are quite old, like 1986.
This a 2-yr old A-4000 with a 1-yr old MB..

Eddie,
My very first suspicion would be the disks themselves. It *sounds*
like it's doing a normal poll, and suddenly can't read the disk…so keeps
trying till it gets it.

No reason to become alarmed .. but any time a disk shows activity when I
don't expect it, I run a virus test. Probably isn't that, but just in case.
