True, "to each his/her own" …. never having had a 4000, or access to one, I'm in no position to compare, let alone comment on comparisons of those machines. Money was a primary concern in staying with the A500 (as is the case for many folks), and what with the rapidly changing market availability and varieties of new products, and given my conservative "wait and see what shakes out" approach to hardware acquisition, Commodore picked a lousy time to bail out, respective to me. I will say, that, compared to my A500, this 486DX2/66 of mine (I THINK that's right) zooms past the A500. I DO agree that Windows suck, MS-DOS is a pain, and ADOS is superior, more usable, and much more flexible, particularly where multitasking is concerned. Having worked in mainframe DOS, DOS/VS, VSE, VSE/SP, VM, and VM/SP environments (including the mainframe REXX, from whence AREXX), I knew what was coming, and, actually, found MS-DOS/Windows not too difficult to work with (still kludgy, not much different than the systems running on the XTs and ATs, prior to the x86 era). Still miss my Amiga, though it's still in use for a lot of word processing, games, some BBS/CIS stuff. If Amiga does resurrection duty, money is reasonable (and available) I will have a new system; much has to happen between now and that time. Adios, amigo, Amiga (albeit, temporarily!)
