Does anyone know how to create realistic, lightbeams in 3DS??? I tried the cone with transparency settings route and it ain';t very realistic..too smooth and regular shaped and you can't see the custers of individual rays that make up real dusty light beams. Any ideas???

The best way is probably the Smoke IPAS routine, Suresh. If ya can't swing it, try applying a bit of reflection map with some outside transparency to the "beam" object.

I have had good results with an animated opacity map. I don't care much for the Smoke IPAS, but then, I haven't used it much. I uploaded a sample here some time back called SMOKE.ZIP.
