I want to pick some nits. Sorry, but I can't help it — it's in my
genes!<g>
* I thoroughly dislike Autodesk's "new" packaging — ie the use of
corrogated cardboard for the manual cases, as debuted with ACADr12.
Yech! Does not look like I paid $3-4k for it.
* I was kind of appalled by the new 3DSr3 box. The artwork is okay,
I've nothing against it, but gosh!–why isn't it something generated
with 3DS? I'd think twice about any software that wasn't used to
create its own product paraphanalia (I mean, were the renderings in
the book done with 3DS or Topas?<g>). Seriously! And, the artwork
is on the BACK end of the box! When I stick it on the shelf, you
can't see anything but a big purple end! With the r2 box (done with
3DS imagery on nice heavy cardboard, I might add), the box's artwork
was applied symetrically, allowing it to be enjoyed sitting on the
shelf.
* There is an error of ommission in the 3DSr3 Installation guide (and
I'm sending a copy of this item to Jack). On page 106 (Ch.5,
"Performance and Memory Management"), under the heading "Quarterdeck
QEMM and Qualitas 386-to-the-Max", it states that deactivating the
EMS page frame also disables VCPI, thus keeping 3DS from executing.
While this is true, in and of itself, with QEMM you can add "FEMS:Y"
(or "ForceEMS:Y") to the QEMM line in the Config.Sys to "re-enable"
VCPI even with no page frame. This is how I use it, and I have had
zero problems.
Anyway, I'm sure I'll love EVERYTHING ELSE about 3DSr3 — I just had
to get this off my chest!

Fun! No kidding. I was ready to scrap this bit of organic geometry I
was working on in R2 becuase I couldn't get it to look good enough,
but with R3's new materials editor and renderer (metal shading,
analytical anti-aliasing) the thing's looking great!

No, I got my r3 copy Monday at about 1pm. My sneaky dealer didn't
even bother to call — he just sent it over, so I strolled back to my
desk from working on someone elses machine, ant there it is, sitting
in my chair!

Well…I do work for a company that does work primarily for the
federal gov't. Nice to have those paid holidays! BTW I received my
3DS today!!!–and here I am on c-serve!:-) Time to get to work……

haven't heard a word yet (wasn't he supposed to get them in first?)
Well, he's a busy guy, I guess. But if another week goes by and I

I don't know about first, but definately in the first batch, many
dealers don't even have any yet! I think the UPS man got a hernia
today, first delivering 30 or so boxes, then coming back in the
afternoon to take most of them back out!

Greg, I just had to grin (and I don't go with :> signs — isn't irony
and humor supposed to be a function of the written language?) —
truthfully, I said to myself when I posted this message that you'd
answer it right away, and I was sure you'd have good news in your
answer… for a few moments I debated even sending it. Your forum
record on answering messages is exemplary, as is your behavior as a
dealer, so let me make it all clear here that my first message was
strictly tongue-in-cheek.
But, thanks for the good news — now I won't feel left out (I'm
nearly always on the bleeding edge).
