Yeah, great show! I have most of them on tape (crappy SLP VHS… MTV
needs to re-air it so's I can retape it!)

Oh yeah! There's one episode where one of the guys sets fire to the
others bed – isn't that what the Beavis and Butthead controversy is
about (setting fire to things)?

One strange thing about those YOUNG ONE's shows… If you watch them
closely, every now and then, in several of the episodes, they will
flash something on the screen. Just a single video frame, quick
enough for most people to not catch. The things I've seen are a
white dove with a cloud background, a smiley face, and other
peaceful-type images.
I wonder if they did these to subliminally calm down the people being
excited by the show's intensity?
BTW, how many animators here have USED any subliminal techniques in
their work? ie. flashing the words BUY NOW! BUY NOW! in an
animation, subtle misdirection from the picture of a naked lady in an
obscure portion of the scene, etc.etc…. <g>
I remember those sublimal single frames in the "Young Ones". Course we
used to record all the shows and then play them back. That's about
the only way you get see what the heck they were.
The r3 Siggraph tape has an example, somewhat similar. It's a piece by
Steve Speer. He's into Jungian imagery and the animation has close
ups of each of the items in his gallery or display case(?) shown for
just 2 frames and repeated for several loops. Finally, they do a
reveal shot of the whole display. I examined most of the tape
frame-by-frame the other day – very interesting stuff.

No doubt! I've heard some cool stories of when he used to attend
Autodesk meetings… let's just say I'm glad there's people like him
using 3DS. He's not only an extremely skilled animator/modeller, but
his ideas and execution really inspire me.

if you saw his "freakshow" animation at the Siggraph '91 3ds party,
you'd probably have seen a taste of his stuff which should only be
shown to adults with _very_ broad minds.
