#SVHS ??dropouts??

I am having a problem, but I am not sure that the problems are
due to dropouts, they are completely blank frames. I am using FUJI
H471S Master Quality SVHS tape on an AG-7750(using SoftVTR). I just
purchased a case of this tape. I was told that this tape would work
very well. I rendered 200 frames last night and had 5 blank frames.
This is the first rendering that I have done with 3DSr3. I was doing
a video-post rendering, to fields. I was using STARS, the KF Scene
and a ALPHA logo aligned in the lower left corner. It does not look
like a normal dropout problem. I have had some dropouts when I
rendered to consumer grade SVHS tape. The dropouts on the consumer
grade tape were only a few lines in width, not whole frames. I hope
someone has some ideas.
What is the best SVHS tape that is available.
Are you using a Targa64? There's a note in the 3DSr3 readme.doc about
how the 64 has an inherent firmware bug that could cause this, and
provides a solution for it. (I don't have it here, or I'd send it to
you.) Martin Foster would know more about that.
If it's not a Targa64, you've got some other sort of hardware problem.

Sorry I neglected to list all of the Hardware. I am using an ILL-Pro
CND/4M/A in a 486-66 w/32 megs. I have never had this problem with blank
frames before.

here's something to look for. When the edit happens, is the framebuffer
displaying the image you want it to layoff correctly? In other words is the
framebuffer display black/blank or are you seeing the correct image. To see
this you'd need one monitor showing your framebuffer output and a seperate one
for your tape deck.

It's not a dropout problem, sounds more like a striping or a sync problem to
me. It would probably have nothing to do with the tape itself. Could you
have a switch set the wrong way when you blanked the tape?

We too have had the same problem. I found that sending a do nothing
targedit command would clear up some of the frames, but some would
still slip through. The r3 states that using the tplusloa.exe will
clear it up entirely but I haven't confirmed this. You will need to
write a batch file to save the rendered image and then edit it using
the copycom (if a diaquest). You can still do it via the video post,
but it isn't as easy as the direct vtr output. The gettga.exe will
also give you blank frames. It isn't your tape or your vtr. I didn't
have this while rendering across our network via batch files. But now
using one of the machines direct I began experiencing this problem
too. It is an odd thing. I'm trying to find another easier solution.
I, too, have had the Targa+ send blank frames to my VTR. The problem has not
recurred, so I haven't been able to do anything about it other than insert edit
the missing frames. Please let me know if you discover anything further.
