I just read that rendering in R3 can be spread over a network. Can you give me some info, I am not very familiar with networks. Could I network a bunch bare bones 386 or 486's? What is the minimum necessary at each node- SVGA? Hard Drive? Would a bunch of 386/33's be faster than a few 486/33's? Is any specific brand of network h/w s/w? required? No clue too small! Thanks, Real

>> Is any specific brand of network h/w s/w? required? Any network that does file locking and allows shared drives will work. PC-NFS (for those UNIX prople out there!) Novel(l), Lantastic, etc., etc. all work. I'd go for 486s with enough memory so that you don't swap, and that of course depneds on the type of renderings you do. A minimal hard drive on each local station, with a big server would be fine. Just do it!

I've been trying to get an answer on whether or not the network connections for Windows for Workgroups will work (not through windows of course just the hardware connections). Any Info? Thanks Andy

Andy: >> will Windows for Workgroups work (not through windows of course just the >> hardware connections). Any Info? If you, from DOS, can copy a file from computer to another, you should be OK. Since R3 will run under Windows, you may be able to run within W4W, but you'll be paying a speed penalty.

>> any network will do….. << Keep all of your networked machines in SYNC, ie. the time should be the same on all machines.

Gary had made mention of that to me the other day. It seems that if this is not done, the network queue may give false "failed" notices? How close in SYNC do the systems have to be?

At this time, I don't have minimum SYNC timing specifics per Network. On page 22 of the Advanced Users Guide, it states "You must synchronize all stations on the network regularly". Some networks allow you to do this automatically.

Jonas, >> SYNC I'll look into Lantastics info on what my options are. Thanks Ang

If you find anything out about sync, please let me know. I've been experiencing lots of problems when traffic is intense on the network and couldn't find anything about sync in the docs.
