Hi, I can remember reading about a Special Effects book for 3DS, but I can't find the messages with the crucial infos about it in my messagebase… So I'm afraid I have to ask some of the questions that have been asked before: – How to get hold of it? (ISBN-No; available in Germany?) – How much will it deplete my financial resources? 🙂 – Are commercial IPASes required or can some of the effects be done with the basic setup of 3DS? – Does it cover R4 features or is an update planned and if the latter when will it be published? This much for now, it would be great if anyone could fill me in, any help, hints, clues, infos would be appreciated. TIA, Volker

Hi there from Vancouver, B.C…. I got the book for Christmas, so… ISBN number is 1 -56205-303-5 Published by New Riders Publishing Cost here is about $55.00 to $70.00 Canadian dollar The book comes with a CD-ROM disk which includes more or less the following: 200 Megabytes of texture maps, all custom, many animated, all not available elsewhere 3 IPAS routines (not demo versions) which will do: 1.) produce cat-tails 2.) pastel-ize any image, in Video Post 3.) hmmm, can't find the 3rd one offhand All of the texture maps and mesh files required for the "effects". which span 17 chapters. Don't know if it's for sale in Germany, but you could order it, of course. I would recommend it without hesitation, since it gives in-depth methods for creating numerous effects. My only complaint is that a number of the effects call for 3-rd party IPAS routines, which cost $$$. However, the included mesh files and texture maps are worth more than the cost of the book, so, ??? If you have any more questions, give me a call at 71175, 2104 yvt, gary

Hi Gary, thanks for your elaborate description of the book and its contents. I'll be on my way into town to place an order for it right now. Thanks again, Volker

It is an excellent book if you are just above the beginner user or have little creativity to work with. Most of the techniques within the book show very little as far as innovative techniques. After reading it, both mine and my staffs comments were…."Silly….I thought of that before" just not as efficiently as they did it. Steve

Hi Steven, thanks for the warning, but as I am indeed "just above the beginner user" and have ordered it already, I think I have to get happy with this book. Let's say I just want to peek at some effects that are possible and how to do them. And isn't the hardest part of creating effects in seeing the obvious anyway…? Thanks again, Volker

Hi Kouros, just waited for Volker response…I'm hot on it and if we are talking about the same "3DS-Special Effects inclusive accompanying CD" book, I think we have a deal 🙂 Unfortunatly I'm from Germany and have no experience with worldwide trade. How do we settle it ? Any suggestions ? Thanx Michael
