#Autodesk U in a nutshell

I had the privilege of attending Autodesk University last week in
San Francisco. Let me try to summarize all the excitement for those
who couldn't make it.
CISers Steven Elliott, Ted Boardman, Randy Randall and Craig Sharp
all taught classes. It was great meeting you all and chatting for a
while. Nice to know the faces behind the keystrokes here.
Bob Bennett and a lot of the Autodesk staff were around and very
responsive to questions/comments from attendees. Bob and Jack Powell
ran a multimedia wishlist session that I found very rewarding.
Autodesk employee and animator extraordinaire Jamie Clay was a
judge for the first annual Image Awards. The grand prize winner (I
forgot who – sorry!) used ACAD R10 and AutoShade to produce a 3+
minute washing machine animation. WOW!!!
Gary Yost presented a class featuring IPAS and the exciting new
features, such as KXP (keyframe processing) and BXP (bitmap
processing).
Autodesk employee, Brent Blackett, gave a very informative class
on industrial design with 3DS and later demo'd R3 at the Bay Area
UG. Neat stuff, Brent!
I also enjoyed meeting fellow CISers John Tissavary, Todd
Wiedemann, Michelle Bousquet and Alec Jason.
Autodesk also ran a "trade show" concurrently which featured a
number of related vendors. CISer Rachel Rosenthal was at the People
for People booth. I can't figure her out though! I asked for a
catalog – she gave me one – then rudely snatched it from my hand! I
guess her catalog is more important than my business… go figure!
All told, it was a very beneficial week. I'm looking forward to
next year in Atlanta.

telling me how you sell your meshes at viewpoint engineering? Well by
golly sweetie, why don't you just darn introduce yourself, instead of
skulking around ….ya just never know where the next mesh thief
might pop up and come out w/ the next version of K-Mart people….
Yes your personal nutshell view of adesk University sounds like you
had fun, so did we all…Its fun demonstrating 3D in 3 different
programs on 1 computer…and filling out order forms at the same
time!
But if anyone cares- THE most important aspect of the show was that 3D
is here-some of the most distinctive Architectural Firms and
Engineering Firms in the Country visited the Show Floor and the
people for people booth and it seems they are all waking up to 3D in
ACAD and loading up with 3D Studio. This should be the message for
the members of this Forum, whose skills have been developing while 3D
and video or rendered presentations have been a little slow to reach
a real demand.
Most people were taking one of the 980 copies of AccuRender demo we
passed out to initiate the AutoCAD World into rendering…and
hopefully 3DS….ultimately this means a growing group of customers
and clients for the members of this Forum and many new members….
I really look forward to hearing you talk more about your
meshes…sorry didn't have time to hear more about your stuff at the
show breakdown… Next time come visit during show hours!

DM: Not exactly. I did pop back to get a catalog around 5:30 or so,
but I don't sell meshes to anyone (yet). And LITTLE?!? No. (About 6'
210#).

DM: I did introduce myself on Monday or Tuesday evening when Alec
Jason and Todd Wiedemann were hangin' out there – I talked about all
us CISers getting together during the week. You couldn't find your
catalogs and told me to stop back later. I did… and left with an
emotional scar (Boo hoo!). Regarding department store people, I heard
something about someone possibly stealing your people. You really
can't be so paranoid though. If you don't distribute good
representative pictures of your people, you won't sell any. Let the
attorneys deal with stolen intellectual property. In the mean time,
we need to show our clients what they'll get if they pay us to add
your people. Viewpoint didn't stop giving out catalogs for fear of
mesh theft!

Do you know perhaps THAT WAS someone else(g)thanks for letting me
know…But I don't recall meeting you..please forgive….the eve was
a little chaotic(those tables(g) and buckets slopping all
over(g)!..nice service! gosh they need a furniture designer…also i
don't watch tv so I guess video wierds me out when its real close
like that, an old world war II memory….
Hope you had fun anyway at Adesk U, which it seems you did…
I found a really nice place to hang and meet really nice people for a
few hours is 850 Bryant in SF, Also there is this fantastic dance
band called Pride and Joy…..boy are you lucky if you live there-the
Architecture! definitely not KMart!
