#Animator Hangs
6 messages in this thread
I left an earlier message that seems to have disappeared. When I
attempt to run an 8.5 meg file in Animator Pro, it gives me a message
saying the file is not the correct type, and when I try to convert it
in Aniconverter, it locks on the 215 frame. My computer is a
486dx66, 16 megs ram, VLB Viper VGA, and current, any suggestions as
to how I can retrieve this very valuable animation!
Have you tried making a copy of the corrupted file, deleting all
frames past the 215th (including the 215th), saving it as
"anything1", editing another copy and deleting everthing upto the
215th (including the 215th) ans saving it as "anything2". You can
composite the two together. This will only work if the corruption is
limited to that single frame. You could run ANICONV on the individual
pieces to see if there are any other frames in question before the
composite. Have you "CHKDSK'ed" to see if your hard disk is intact?
Greetings
How do I know when the 215th begins, Animator will not even load the animation?

This is a tough question — can you upload the file to Jonas and we
can take a look at it? Have you tried running numpic on the flic?
You might be able to create a series of GIF files before it reads to
the defective section. Then you can read the salvaged GIF files back
into a FLC. (I don't know if this will work.)
The file is 8.5 megs in size, I'm not sure how long this would take to
upload any ideas?
Is the 8.5 megs after zipping? It seems that zipping Flics cuts down
the size considerably. Depending on your modem, we could be talking
a couple of years upload! At least CompuServe doesn't charge for
upload time.
There's a file, MONARC.ZIP about a meg in size, with a note that says
it takes a 2400 baud modem an hour and 4 minutes. 8 megs would be 8
hours???
Alternatively, you could use the DOS command to backup onto several
floppies and send it to us.
