Hi Brian, This message is primary for the developers at Autodesk I have just read the official press release…. If I've got this all right, Animator Studio wil ONLY be released as WINDOWS-VERSION ?!??! PLEASE DON'T DO *T*H*A*T* TO US !!!!!!!!!! Have you ever seen a 640×480 flic played in windows ???? Have you ever seen the faboulos Photoshop displaying a SINGLE picture (especially in truecolor) ??? We all upgrade our machines to speed up the time-consuming process of rendering and post-processing and you waste our efforts by converting a fast and effective application to WINDOWS ?! Please don't take this too personally, but the update to 3ds4 has already been a waste of money in my point of view (compared to the EXCELLENT changes from release 2 -> 3) and now THIS. It seems to me that lately Autodesk tries to sell minor efforts for lots of money (yes I know that WINDOWS programming is much simpler than real work !) These may seem harsh words, but thats how this all appears to me. Maybe I have overlooked something and you have at least some arguments to convince me that I'm wrong. Hope to hear from you soon Bye Michael

Michael: For what it's worth, there has been a lot of requests from users over the last few years to MOVE AAP to Windows. Note that Animator Studio is not a REPLACEMENT for AniPro, but rather a suplemental product for truecolor animations, although no information on the future of AniPro has been made available. Dave

UHHH, lemme get this straight. You mean people really REQUESTED that silly thing ??? Why don't they just use the turbo button on their machine to make it slower ? BUHUUU (sniff), I want truecolor so badly, but I want to WORK with it. Bye, Michael BTW: Did you know that windows is just the longest batch-file in the world ???

<<Animator Studio wil ONLY be released as WINDOWS-VERSION ?!??!>> That is correct. <<PLEASE DON'T DO *T*H*A*T* TO US !!!!!!!!!>> Actually, that was probably the number 1 wishlist item submitted by current AAPRO users. <<Have you ever seen a 640×480 flic played in windows ????>> Yes. However AA STUDIO will not be using the FLC format while you are working, it uses various flavors of AVI. <<We all upgrade our machines to speed up the time-consuming process of rendering and post-processing>> Those same upgrades should benefit you when using AA STUDIO. << by converting a fast and effective application to WINDOWS ?!>> Please remember also, that AASTUDIO is not intended to be a direct replacement to AAPRO. While there are many aspects where the programs overlap, one is not intended to replace the other. We recognize that there are situations where AAPRO may be a better choice for a particular project than AA Studio. -Brian

Well, thanks Brian, <<VERY big sigh !>>, I think I have to live with it… From your (ADESK) article in CadUser I'd got the impression that you would release an AniPro-Truecolor version and was *VERY* happy with it. BTW, how do you maintain quality ??? It seems to me that you're changing to truecolor, just to loose the progress by avi-compression. In Germany we call this: To chase away the devil by asmodeus ?! (well, this is as close as I could translate it <G>). Bye, Michael

<<It seems to me that you're changing to truecolor, just to loose the progress by avi-compression.>> I'm not sure what you mean. I don't see a noticable loss of quality at all. -Brian

I think he means if you are using typical 'Lossy' compression codecs for the AVI Process to achieve better playback rates.

<<if you are using typical 'Lossy' compression codecs>> Compression is customizable, including no compression for no loss. -Brian

Hi Brian, Stuart was right, what I meant was that *any* .AVI that I've seen until now had horrible quality compared to .FLC files. I admit, I've never looked behind the codecs, but all raw .avi's have been much larger than similar flics too. The other drawback (for me) is that I'm creating multimedia app's under DOS with Grasp (have you ever seen a 640×480 flic with 22kHz soundtrack on a 486/33 – it's possible !) and so I've no chance at the moment to use .AVI's Bye, Michael

<<Will Animator control devices like the Targa 2000 and PAR? What about Quicktime and Quicktime VR?>> Targa 2000 and PAR drivers can be written using the developers kit. Quicktime output will be supported. I am not familiar with Quicktime VR. -Brian
