To all MagicWB users, I can not seem to get the paette set right for my workbench screen to show the proper icon colors of MagicWB. If I unarchive them to ram: and look at them thru Diropus they look great. But if I try to use them thru workbench they appear shifted to blue and/or grey. I have tried loading the palette.ilbm as the default palette as well as the Palette3.0. I am using AmigaDOS 2.04. I really do like the way the icons look thru Opus but the don't look the same in use. I did not use the install program, but manually installed all the files (heard to many problems with the install program here on Ci$ to trust it). Any ideas?

Steve, I used the install program and it worked fine for me. I'm using WB2.1. Have you set the number of colors in the ScreenMode Preferences? It should be eight colors. Christopher

Chris, I have tried both 8 color and 16 color from prefs but the palette is still off color drom what it shows if I use some type of utility to view them. I may try to reinstall using the instal program, but I remeber hearing all kinds of strange things happening when it first appeared here on CI$. Thanks for the response. …Steve ====>>> Motorola 68030 Inside <<<====

I installed MagicWB a little while, and nothing weird happened to me. Except that the unarchiving program that came with MWB wouldn't unarchive it. I ended up just using a different one, though, with no hassles. zzzzz….. The Sandman….. zzzzz….. The Sandman…..

Steve, in order to obtain to correct pallette for MagicWB, you are going to have to use the install program included with the package. There are too many problems with attempting to manually install the package to go into one by one. BTW, the installation was not the problem for many users, it was the actual de-archiving that presented a problem. That had more to do with a problem with the included de-archiver than anything else.

Steve, that was my approach as well. If you want to cut down on what you need to back up, just back up your ENV: and ENVARC: directories to floppy. That is where the most problems, if any, may occur.

Tried installing MagicWB from the instaler and it still comes up with a different pallete than what is shown with DirOpus showicon button. Everything still seems shifted to a blue/grey color. They look beautiful from Opus. They don't look bad on the workbench but I sure wish I could get this pallete straight. Will play with it some more tonite. Is there a way I could load the icons into Dpaint (or something) and save the pallete from that and use it from the workbench?.

Are you using WB1.3 by any chance? That would reverse the colors.

No, I'm using 2.04.

Steve, I am using workbench 3.1 and have the same problem. Same blue-grey muted colour scheme, but totally different when I view thru Opus. Only thing is, I think the Opus-viewed icons are garish! 🙂 Pete Jones, flying on AutoPilot from Brussels, Belgium

I do like the way they look in Opus a LOT better than they appear on workbench, have you looked at the seperate archive recently uploaded of nothing but MagicWB icons (Mwbico.lha), they are gorgious. I am glad that I am not the only one though who can't get the pallete straight.

Steve, Hi. I had no problems at all with the MagicWB palette. However, one problem I've had lately is the display of icons within Dir Opus. My icons look great on the WB, but always look funny and garish when viewing them from Dir Opus. Sounds like the opposite situation from you. Dom Fontana –> Sent from NY via AP <–

Hi Dominick, long time no chat! All the `standard' icons look correct from Opus except for the ones that came with MagicWB and a recently uploaded package of MagicWB created especially for MagicWB, which IMHO look great with Opus (not that they look that bad from workrbench) and I just wish I could get WB to display them in the same pallete as from Opus. …Steve ====>>> Motorola 68030 Inside <<<====

Steve, Hi. Like I said, all my MagicWB and other icons look great on the WB, but they all display in different colors through DirOpus and I don't know why. Take care. Dom Fontana –> Sent from NY via AP <–

Steve, I wonder if we are comparing the same thing? You wouldn't like to select a specific icon and try to describe it exhaustively, would you? Pete Jones, flying on AutoPilot from Brussels, Belgium

Peter, I think Brian Bartlett has hit on the right idea, that Opus's Icon viewer is using the pallete from Opus to show the icons not the pallete from WB. Will verify this later today to see if that is the case. If so I guess this is a problem with Opus that Jonathan Potter should check out. No sense in using an Icon viewer that sets its own pallete! …Steve ====>>> Motorola 68030 Inside <<<====

Where did you get Workbench 3.1?

As a journalist, I am afraid I can't reveal my sources.<g> You may rest assured, however, that it doesn't get any farther than me. I am not about to bite the hand that feeds me!

Steve, on this question, I don't have a clue. The pallete loaded up just fine here, and I know I had several saved palletes installed in ENVARC:. Sorry.

PMJI… If I understand correctly, using Opus (ICONINFO) the icons appear to have multiple colours [GB English sorry :)], if you just double click on the icon from Opus though you should get roughly what they'll look like on the WB. This is what happens here anyway. I think part of the archive includes a picture of what the finished article will look like, that'll tell you if I'm talking rubbish or not :), it should also let you know what to expect. If you've done the above and still not getting what you want, what can I say,:). Personally, I think the blue/grey effect is pretty neat. // Ken on Autopilot \X/ (:-)

Ken, Your analysis (and GB spelling (-:) arecorrect. If I double click the icon in Opus the icons show up with a lot of reds and yellows even after installed on the workbench partition, but on the actual workbench screen they are grey/blue. The blue grey doesn't look that bad but they look so much better thru Opus. I have tried both 8 and 16 color workbench preferences. It is not a really big deal but is does have me curious as hell as to why they show up this way.

Steve, it sounds to me that DirOpus is using a palette different from that of your MagicWB. Have you tried editting the palette that DirOpus uses to match that of the WB? I don't know if that would help, or render DirOpus unusable (some programs look sickly if you change their palettes), as I do not have DirOpus here.
#119600From: Steve SetzerOct 24, 1993 7:01 AM
That makes a lot of sense, will check out the differences between Opus pallete and WB's. If this turns out to be true, there is no point in an icon viewer that does not use the WB pallete as then all icons viewed will be in the wrongs colors! Thanx.
