(I'm stuck with using DOS CIM which won't let me change the addressee of a [Reply] message — this is to everyone, not to Jonas, so I can respond to several points raised in several messages without having to post several replies — gee, GEnie's PC-Aladdin is SO much nicer in this regard!): Agreed about the reliability of PC Magazine (or any of the Ziff-Davis rags) awards and reviews. You know that, and *I* know that, but does Joe Newbie who is just now planning on getting into 3D and only knows what the magazines tell him know that? It's people like that who put value into those awards. Like it or not, deserved or not, the Technical Excellence Awards from PC Magazine have a highly respected reputation in the computer industry as a whole. It's a very coveted award. Yes, in all probability, it could be more truthfully renamed "The Advertising Extravigance Awards," but the general population out there for the most part doesn't see it that way. THEY are the ones Autodesk has to appeal to if it is to maintain its market share. About my anonymity: it's beyond my control. If I could, I'd post my name, and would have done so long ago. But I can't. About "whinings" — I have NOTHING against Gary Yost or the Yost Group, or even against 3D Studio itself. I think 3D Studio is a great program. I think the Yost Group and Gary himself are geniuses and fun people as well. My beef is with Autodesk, and even then not so much with the product itself, but with the IMO misleading marketing and packaging of it. Yes, I'm repetitive. I have reason to be — the squeaky wheel and all that. I want Autodesk to know that this is NOT going to just go away by itself. If some of you don't like that, well, sorry, but you don't see "(Sysop)" or any such tag on my handle. Guess what? I pays my $8.95 (soon to be $9.95) per month and $4.80+/hour just like the rest of you. I have just as much right to say what I want, when I want, and as many times as I want as any of you do, so long as I don't violate CIS policy. If you don't like that, you can get a Bozo Filter. I don't care if you read my messages or not. But if you want me to stop posting them, then feel free to write your Congressman about repealing that pesky little First Amendment.

>>PC Magazine PMJI, and as a bit of an aside, the Jan. 24 issue has an article on 3dsr4 (3D Studio Retains the lead in 3_D illustration) in their First Looks section (pg. 46) that lauded it; the final paragraph said there might be an easier way of doing photorealistic 3d on a PC, but they hadn't seen it. No award, though. John Stetzer JWS

Am I missing something? If you're actually paying for it like the rest of us, get your own account and use your name. name withheld
