Hmmm. Okay, you got me. I don't understand your Police/Eberhard
Schoener remark, unless it's something like Sting's real name. I
have a friend who's a real Police nut, and I THOUGHT about calling
him, but decided I'd come clean, instead. I haven't looked up a new
Nick Lowe album in a while. Saw him back when he and the Cowboy
Outfit opened for Elvis Costello & the Attractions' "Goodbye Cruel
World" tour. Can't spend too much on CD's until I get my new machine
paid for (and the car insurance is due in Feb, and then it's
tax-time, etc). However, I'm just about to plunk down money on the
new Voyager CD-ROM release of the "Spinal Tap" movie. As I
understand it, you get two CD's. The first contains the movie along
w/ 3 soundtrack options: a)the Dolby stereo surround soundtrack,
b)Rob Reiner's running commentary and c)the cast's running
commentary. The second CD contains outtakes, cut-scenes and their
music videos. CD-ROM Warehouse's new catalog (a division of
MicroWarehouse) has it for $30-40.

Sorry, it was a way of patting you on the back for knowing of the rather
obscure Brinsley Schwarz. Equally obscure is Eberhard Schoener, a German
keyboard musician who enlisted the Police to be his band on the album Trans Am
(now, I'll have to check to see if I got the title correct). I've never seen
this record on CD but I have seen some Eberhard Schoener greatest hits on CD
which includes a few of the cuts. If you really like the Police this record
is like having a whole new album by them. The album was recorded
chronologically after Regatta de Blanc and after Outlandos d'Amour. Following
the recording of this record you'll see the inclusion of keyboards in a lot
more of the Police's own records (ie Ghost in the Machine stuff).
Re: Nick Lowe – After getting your note the other day I hit the local record
shop and ordered his lates CD. The title already escapes me but the word
'bird' is in the title and it was recorded in '94.
I have had really bad luck trying to see Nick Lowe live, Rockpile actually. My
closest shot was getting turned away at the door of the Capitol theatre in
lovely Passaic, NJ by the bouncer who said "Edmunds is sick, the shows
cancelled." Two weeks later the news hit about Rockpile's demise.
The Spinal Tap CD set sounds like a great deal. Let me know your impressions.
Re: SC2000, If something hits you I'm sure you'll figure out a way to squeeze a
little time in for it. How 'bout all that useless time you spend each month
paying bills? Just blow it off! 🙂

of obscure things to look for.
Seeing Rockpile would've been cool. Do you have the original vinyl release of
"Seconds of Pleasure" — it included a 7" of an Edmunds/Lowe tribute to the
Everly Bros. I found one a few years back. Let me know about the latest Lowe
CD.
I'll keep you posted on the Tap CD.
As for bill paying, that's one thing I'd GLADLY give up — just as soon as
either Publisher's Clearing House, American Family Publishers or the POWERBall
comes through with my millions! I'll fly you all in to some little tropical

I re-checked my tape library. Eberhard Schoener's lp was entitled "Video
Magic" according to my label but I've got a New Wave discography which lists it
as "Video Flashback". Now that we are all confused … Anyway, the first song
on the lp is 'Trans Am' and that's where I goofed in thinking it was the album
title. 'Flashback' is a song on the record but I swear I copied the name down
correctly as "Video Magic". Could be that there are different names for the
American release and the European release.

Yep. These tunes are also included on the CD version as well.
I just popped on the ES tape and it sounds better than I remembered, VERY
ETHEREAL!. Sting's voice is swirling all over the place. There's even a track
called 'Code Word Elvis' which should be played today in honor of the King's
60th birthday. I noticed I put on a couple of filler songs on the end of the
tape by equally obscure Max Werner.

I have yet to acquire Seconds… on CD — I'll have to start looking.
Regarding ES, there was a guy in the CEAUDIO forum who has a little indie
re-issue label who was asking for suggestions awhile back for suggestions for
"New Wave"-ish stuff to issue — I'll have to look him up and suggest "Video
Something"!

form a 'planet' we are all familiar with.

I've had the last 3 revisions of the TP Record Guide — I think old Ira A.
Robbins (who occasionally writes reviews in Entertainment Weekly) needs to turn
it into a 3-ring binderable newsletter that you can subscribe to — easier to
update (& more often). An invaluable tome for all interested in
alternative/punk/new-wave/etc music — both current and historically.
Re: the old magazine, yeah, too bad good things always have to go under, while
the mediocre always thrive.

collector of vinyl including 70's and 80's punk and new wave stuff which brings
me to the question can you put me in touch with the TP Record Guide?

Edmunds is still around and recording. He was to be on Letterman a month or so
ago, but got bumped. I didn't catch it if they had him back. If you haven't
checked out the CEAUDIO forum, you ought — there are weekly postings of new CD
releases, compiled from an Internet list, and lots of other music collector
types. I've been too busy to check in for a while — I need to get back over
there.

The ISBN of the version I have is 0-684-17994-x published by Charles Scribner's
Sons in 1983. I have no idea of updated editions. I still have a stack of the
records (hidden away somewhere) that the magazine used to include with the
subscription.
Re: Dave Edmunds, I've lost track of the guy. I picked up his Rhino double CD
collection last year, great compilation.
