#Alternate Render OS/CPU
4 messages in this thread
There will come out a raytracer that can read 3DS Files. The
raytracer run's on 486, i860 and will run on DEC's Alpha and so on.
What ray tracer is this? Maybe I'm living with my head in a hole in
the ground. If you know who please don't hold back.
I don't think using alternate processors for rendering is such a wild
idea. 4 i860s will smoke a single 486.
Lightwave will have the screamer. ( multiprocesor RISC board )
Electric Image renders on SGI ( 4 processor Onxy ) 3DS is optimized
for the following processors: 486
Why not others. A true windows app for rendering. Then simply add SMP
support and buy a dual processor ALR. Network rendering is a good.
Multiprocessing is great!
I'm sorry but I can't tell you more about the raytracer. All the
informations I have are very confidential. The only thing I can say:
it will be one of the fastest raytracer that you've ever seen. Much
more faster than POV or other Raytracers on PC's… Believe and
wait…
I've experimented with the 3ds2pov method. It gets very good results,
but raytracing is so slow. I guess it would be different with a Dec
Alpha.
