Flicker free LW?

I just had a look at LW. I am impressed by some of it's features, but I have
no idea how one can work on this kind of a monitor. I may be spoiled from the
Mac and SGI with non-interlaced displays and resolutions of 1280 x 1024, etc.
Still, I would like to know: Is there a way to work with LW on a
non-interlaced, 16 or 19 inch monitor?

You are so right! I have a Toaster 4000 (in my 4000) and a
multisync monitor and I can't use a delaced screen for Lightwave.
It's truly awful and makes no sense whatsoever to expect people to
stare at that screen for hours (even DAYS) on end with all that
flicker.
I have been complaining about this for a while now, but noone at
NewTek seems to be listening.
As much as I like LW (from what I have seen), I would NEVER work under
this conditions. I may buy a toster if this is addressed by Newtek.
I can imagine that more people, even SGI users like me, will check
into LW when the screamer is released, but I am shure that none of
them will ever work on such a tiny, interlaced monitor.
If you're working with a 2000, you can use one of the de-interlacers
that fit under the Denise chip. ICD's FFV2 works fine with the
Toaster.
You CAN use a delaced monitor. There are a few companyies that make
an adapter to work with the 4000. I can't think of the name off hand,
but I know that TS computers in Burbank sells some. The problem is
not NewTek's, it is a problem with the 4000.
PMFJI, but I hear that it only requires a fairly simple mod to the
original C= VGA dongle that comes with the 4000 to get non-interlaced
displays.
Supposedly you cut a few traces, solder a few leads, and maybe add one
or two components, and voila! You have a dongle that will allow
non-interlaced display in non-switcher modes……
Does anyone out there know what the specific hacks are?

The adapters I beleave you are talking about are like the Sync Strainer
by Pre Vue Tech. These devices do let you use a multiscan with your
A4000/Toaster system. But all they do is allow you to run LW and modler in
ther normal 640×400 interlaced modes at 15.75khz. In other words not only
does it flicker but it requires you to have a Multiscan monitor that can
do 15.75khz scan rate.

I'm sure that some people are using them flicker free, I'll have to
check into it…
PMFJI, but I just stumbled across a neat bit of info…. One benefit
of LightRave is that it allows you to run LW3.0 on a 4000/040 w/o
starting the Toaster. This means you can run the modeler in
noninterlace mode on any VGA monitor. Boy, I sure wish NewTek would
release a standalone version of LW…….
Let me know, if you know someone using it flicker free on an A4000,
and how they do it.
You get a Long Persistance monitor like the one I use on my non-FFixed
A2000 and everything looks quite nice. Never had a problem with LW.
Sorry I can't recommend a manufacturer, my monitor came from an old
grahics Workstation.
