Truevision Announces TrueVista Pro EISA Professional Level Frame Buffer
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., October 14, 1993-Truevision, Inc., a RasterOps Company
(NASDAQ: ROPS), today unveiled the TrueVista Pro EISA, a professional quality
frame buffer and the first of a number of products based on the company's new
DVR architecture. A leading industry analyst describes this architecture as the
"most significant desktop video development" in years.
TrueVista Pro EISA is a broadcast-quality frame buffer for use in EISA- bus,
IBM-compatible PCs. This new product integrates the personal computer into the
broadcast studio and is a line extension of the TrueVista family of products.
The TrueVista Pro EISA has one video input and two video outputs. Video
producers can use the frame buffer to capture video stills or pass-through
video to one or both of the video outputs. The two video outputs also meet the
producer's need for program preview and program output, or program output with
matte channel. The frame buffer supports all major analog video standards,
including: Betacam(tm), YPbPr (SMPTE/EBU), GBR (RGB, sync on gn), Y/C
(S-video) and composite video.
"The TrueVista Pro EISA offers professional quality and capability using the
most common video and computer standards at a cost-effective price," says Brian
Van Herp, TrueVista Product Manager. "More than 50 developers are working on
software solutions that tap into the tremendous capabilities of this product."
TrueVista Pro EISA includes software such as an image loading utility for use
under Windows 3.1 or DOS, a Windows 3.1 driver, Autodesk ADI (V.4.2) driver and
capture/control utilities. A developer's toolkit is available for creating
custom applications and interfaces.
The frame buffer features NTSC and PAL video formats at CCIR 601 sampling and
24-bit per pixel color resolution, meaning it supports worldwide video
standards at 720×486 NTSC and 720×576 PAL.
Another key feature is a custom video/memory control ASIC with an integrated
video resizer, or 2D filter, 256-level line blender and a BLIT engine with
mask. This feature lets developers access the following functions of the DVR
technology:
* Resize live video or graphics in a real-time environment;
* Smoothly dissolve between video and graphics; and,
* Move images at faster than screen refresh rates. TrueVista Pro offers
independent capture and output capabilities with the modular frame buffer
memory. The modular memory architecture, coupled with Truevision's DVR
technology, allows from 2 to over 40 full-resolution frames of video to be
stored on the board. The standard configuration of the frame buffer features 4
MB of memory. Up to 64 MB can be added through plug-in SIMMs.
The product will begin shipping in December, 1993. It has a suggested list
price starting at $4,195 (U.S. retail, depending on memory configuration).

Key Developers Announce Support For Truevision TrueVista Pro EISA Frame Buffer
INDIANAPOLIS, October 14, 1993-More than 50 leading video applications software
developers are enthusiastically supporting the new TrueVista Pro EISA, a
professional-quality frame buffer that features Truevision's revolutionary
DVR(tm) architecture. Truevision Inc. is a RasterOps Company (NASDQ ROPS).
Designed for use in professional broadcast and production studios, TrueVista
Pro EISA is designed for EISA bus, IBM-compatible PCs. The frame buffer
supports all major analog video standards, including: Betacam(tm), YPbPr

Image North Technologies, Inc., Waterloo, Ontario., is developing a greatly
enhanced version of its Inscriber character-generation package to take full
advantage of the frame buffer's advanced capabilities. "Inscriber for the
TrueVista Pro EISA will be a revolutionary product, extending the definition
and capabilities of a broadcast character generator," said Image North
Technologies President Daniel Mance. "The EISA bus provides the bandwidth
needed for quickly updating 32/bpp imagery. The animation capabilities of the
hardware also allows us the possibility of doing more with text than just
simple rolls and crawls."
Dennis Ricks, president and founder of Santa Clara, Calif.-based
CrystalGraphics, Inc., developer of Crystal TOPAS Professional(tm), a 3D
modeling, rendering and animation program, announced his company's support of
the framebuffer. "Truevision has always been the vendor of choice for the
majority of our TOPAS Professional(tm) customers," Ricks says. "We believe
this new DVR-based board is a step in the right direction by Truevision. We
will, of course, support it in our soon-to-be-released Crystal TOPAS
Professional 5.0."
Houston, Texas-based Ron Scott Inc., developer of the acclaimed HiRes QFX
image-editing software, also announced support of the new Truevision frame
buffer. "We have one of the very few products that runs in the native mode on
the entire family of Truevision products, without having to install a Windows
driver," said President Ron Scott. "We're a long-time support of Truevision
and we like the idea of the DVR architecture. It's the way all future
videographics engines should be designed. Naturally, we're very excited about
the possibilities of QFX with TrueVista Pro EISA."

Great Kevin! You just have did same error as me. Posting hardware info
in section 5 (VR), instead of 6 (Hardware). And the worst thing is
that I posted a note on DVR a month ago in the same section. This
way, people will start to think that DVR is a kind of Virtual Reality
engine. For all who think that it is, it isn't. It's "just" a frame
buffer.
Hey Kevin, I think that, like me, you have to update your TapCIS
sections 🙂 Well, probably the sysop could move this to the hardware
section.
