One of the standards is Surfer, a DOS environment program that I think was
recently ported to Windows as well. There is also something for the mac called
"Topo" or something along those lines.
Surfer is not cheap, but may be you can find someone who has it and try it on
their system before making the plunge!
Have you tried the file finder for shareware programs?
