#Emplant Problems
10 messages in this thread
Hi all,
I was shopping for a new computer two months ago and had to make the
decision of buy a mac – most of my costumers use MACS – or what I really wanted
a A4000/40. All the hype about the UU Emplant, helped in my decision to buy the
Amiga.
So, I ordered the 4000 with a 120 Meg HD, and a retina board with 2 meg of
ram. – should have got the 4 meg version ! – At the same time I ordered a
Deluxe Emplant board and a 120 Meg SCSI HD for the MAC side.
I received the Amiga the same day and the Retina board one week later but
the Dealer only called yesterday – two months later – to let me know the
Emplant was in the store. When I went to the store after work they were trying
to install a Emplant to use as a demonstrator. They had installed the MAC ROM
chips and were trying to copy them to RAM to test the board. When they run the
software to copy the ROMS the file in RAM has 0 bits. We ran the diagnostic
program and everything checks out until it gets to the AUTOBOOT SOCKET that is
marked as BAD. There is NO CHIP IN THIS SOCKET. So we opened the box containing
my Emplant and it also has no chip in the AUTOBOOT socket as the the DOCS are
not clear as to whether there should be a chip installed in this socket can
anyone clarify this?
Now the FLAME. When looking at the dealers board I noted the it had been
hand soldered, but when I looked at my board it had been WAVE soldered using
the water based method. THE BOARD HAD NOT BEEN WASHED, and was already starting
to corrode.
I gave the board back to the dealer and asked him to get me another one.
Can I get some feedback from other Emplant users as to whether this shoddy
quality control on UU'S part is typical of UU or just a fluke.
Thanks
Edson
Sorry I can't answer your questions, but you might ask them over in the UU

Hi Jonathan,
I have already moved my post over to AmigaVendor, Good to hear they are on
board. I see by my lurking that you are an Emplant user. I will have lots of
questions for you when I get my Emplant up and running.

Edson,
I've forwarded your message directly to Jim Drew of UU.
Thanks Michael,
I had already reposted the message on AmigaVender, before reading your
message. So I guess it will be posted twice. Oh well. 😉
