Where do I find the nanuals–AmigaDos User's Guide, ARexx User's Guide, and
Amiga Hard Drive User's Guide. My computer came without them and I need them
to be able to operate my system properly. Are there sources where I can find
these or is Amiga similar in any way to IBM or MAC DOS?
AmigaDOS is most similar to Unix, actually. The best bet I can think of
for finding manuals or books dealing with the operation of the amiga is to
either find a local amiga dealer, amiga users' group, or a used computer
dealer. I'm sure others here will have better advice, tho. 🙂
Sigh. In normal times, you could have taken a stab at asking Commodore if
they could furnish these books. Sadly, Commodore were never user-responsive on
this kind of thing, but there was always a chance that you might hit the right
person at the right time. (Hey, as long as we're on a "sadly" note, I should
also say that while MicroSoft were lacing their operating system with all sorts
of HELP features, Commodore never seemed interested).
Other books have been published covering some of the subjects you mention.
Abacus published a decent guide to AmigaDOS in "AmigaDOS Inside & Out
(Revised)" (the revised edition covered 2.0), and "Using AREXX on the Amiga".
Don't know if any copies would remain in stock, but their address is: 5370
52nd Street SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49512. Other publishers have put out similar
books, and it's likely that some of those will be suggested here.

Nonsense! Why, I have a "help" key right here on the keyboard! Or did
you want it to DO something? <G>

Gosh, yes. And there's also the question mark prompt: type in something like
DIR ? and you'll get a template that's understood by at least 10% of the Amiga
user community! 🙂

While Microsoft was lacing their OS with all sorts of help features, CBM
never seemed interested… but, we *do* have a Help key on the keyboard
<grin>.

There are more in the latest issue of Amiga World. I've used all the
above with excellent results (make sure the stuff is in stock).
Denny Atkin has an excellent book which may still be available. but I
can't remember the exact title (Inside AmigaDOS?).
You may want to consider upgrading to the latest OS version which just
came out, which would then get you manuals for both the OS and AREXX.
This is obtainable from Expert Services (606) 371-9690. You will need to
open up the case and remove some components, so you need to have access to
computer hardware savvy. What kind of system do you have, and what
release of the OS?
