1/95 3D Studio Release 4c1 In mid-January 1995, Autodesk will commence shipping (in the Americas) a slightly revised update to 3D Studio called Release 4c1. Here is a list of changes as of R4c1 for your reference. This is not a "feature upgrade" to 3D Studio, it is maintenance update to correct certain bugs found since initial product shipment. Autodesk will be supplying R4c1 to Autodesk Multimedia Dealers (in the Americas) at no charge for specific customers who are affected. The update includes new serialized disks and a reprinted New Features manual. Changes in R4c1: 1. In 3DS.exe, the Load DXF command now correctly accepts AutoCAD Release 13 binary and ASCII DXF files. 3DS.exe now correctly handles splines during Load DXF when not enough path steps are available. Note: There is a patch on Compuserve called DXFPCH.ZIP which will modify the *existing* R4 3DS.exe to successfully read ASCII DXF files from AutoCAD R13. 2. Revised the internal version number for 3D Studio Release 4 c1 (used by IPAS routines, Adobe Illustrator file output and Targa output) to 4.01. 3. Backgrounds and animated BXPs now resize properly when invoked via IPAS. 4. Faster memory transfer code in 3DS.exe can speed up certain IPAS routines. 5. Fixed a bug in 3DS.exe found with deleting KF tracks from the 3D Editor programmatically via PXP's. 6. Various corrections to the New Features manual were made. Primary changes were to correct errors in the IK tutorials and a re-write of the Match Perspective tutorial. 7. In 3DS.exe, an IPAS call to MTL_SELF flag is now returned as TRUE if the self-illumination percentage of the material is nonzero. 8. Fixed an IPAS-related text editor problem in 3DS.exe which could cause an editable field from an AXP or IXP dialog to erroneously appear in the middle of the display. 9. Fixed a bug in IK.KXP where a Follow Object with Scale keys not equal to (1.0,1.0,1.0) caused problems when solving for orientation. 10. Instances, morphing and self-illuminated objects are now correctly handled in the Fast Preview module. 11. Fixed a bug in Fast Preview that could result in an un-rendered scan-line in the display. 12. Fixed a bug in Fast Preview that could cause improper backface calculations when one of more vertices were located behind the camera. 13. Fast Preview now draws only edges that are visible for faster performance. 14. Fixed a bug in Fast Preview where it was possible to get a negative ambient light value when the ambient light had keys. 15. Slightly improved the speed for Fast Preview when running in either 16 or 24 bit mode. Memory leak also fixed. 17. The Background color in Camera Control/Fast Preview now uses the specified color instead of finding nearest match. 18. Various modifications to INSTALL program to allow installation of c1 and to make each Custom Install option more useful. [end]

May be that's the answer ! I'm waiting for my educationnal upgrade to release 4.0.since mid-december 94 and I haven't received it yet. May be they are waiting r4c1 to ship the package over the border in Canada. My reseller doesn't seem to know the exact reason and my message in the shipping and education departement of Asoft forum strangely disappear without answer… Yeah maybe this is the explanation !!! Jonas, Thanks for the update info, evne if formatted weird. BTW, I consider #10 to be a feature upgrade – dealing with morphing in the Fast Preview is going to be mighty handy. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates

And what is about the German users? Will we get the update through our german dealer? Michael

Hi Michael, << Will we get the update through our german dealer? >> That is not clear to me at this time. It has to do with language localization schedules. jonas[adesk]

Hi Jonas, I called my authorized dealer here in NYC this morning and put in my URGENT REQUEST. These bug fixes and what seem to be full feature upgrades will clearly help. I had some dreadful IK problems and am very pleased about the improved IPAS communication. The fast preview enhancements now give us a strong tool to tweak with. Current project starts going to tape in two weeks… really hope this upgrade is in my furry paws before then ;> Jeffrey

>> << Will we get the update through our german dealer? >> >> That is not clear to me at this time. It has to do with language localization schedules. Hi Jonas, I hope you don't mind me rushing into this thread. What exactly do you mean with "language localization schedules"? Is Autodesk finally going to translate the r4 manual? Kai

Hi Jonas, I wanted to ask you something about the translation of 3DS. I have been asking for a Spanish version of the program for quite sometime, and to no avail. If by "Language Localization Schedules" you mean that 3DS is finally going to be translated, or if you guys are even talking about it, please let me know. In other words, I'd like to offer my services as a translator. I am currently translating a program called 2020 which is the program that is used in HOME DEPOT to design the kitchens, it's similar to AutoCAD, sort of. The company that wrote the program intends to sell it in Central and South America, so I'm translating it so that it can be used anywhere in those countries where Spanish is spoken. Please let me know your intentions with regards to translating since I would be very interested in doing it because of my familiarity with the program. Thank you in advance… Alex Karamanoglou.

HI Jonas, Don't you think, then, you guys should have a spanish version? There is a big market for this in South America, you know. It really is odd that you guys don't have one already. Alex K.

Hi Andrew, << What qualifies a specific customer.. >> I think it's as simple as asking your dealer for it. Give your dealer a call and see what happens 🙂 jonas[adesk]
