#Term 4.0/CIS?

I just downloaded Term 4.0 and am having trouble accessing CIS with it. I manage to connect, but then get garbage spread all over the screen. Term seems to work with other sites I use,however. Also, I have connected to CIS with several other term programs and never have had a problem till now. I am using an unaccelerated A2000, which makes Term run slow, but, once connected, everything should work, right? –Thanks, George

George, you must get the new TERM 4.1 version (already in this forum) to work properly with CIS. I had the same trouble under TERM 4.0. Now with 4.1 it works as ususal (3.1). I spoke with Olaf Barthel (the author) about this problem with 4.0 before the release of 4.1 and he mentioned that this bug will be fixed with 4.1. To All: I did as Juan suggested, and downloaded Term 4.1; however, I still have the same problem! Namely, when I log on, nonsense characters are displayed across my screen in a diagonal fashion from upper left to lower right. Evidently, I have a setting wrong somewhere? Or is Term just too big for my unaccelerated A2000? Please help! George

Thanks, Alan: 7-N-1 worked–But how in the hay was I supposed to know that when CIS said to set parameters at 7-*E*-1?? I guess it's knowledgeable members such as yourself that are the lifeblood of this organization…. George

Hi George, another possibility would be to set LATIN-1 in your permanent CI$-settings. (Which brings you all those foreign letters e.g. german Umlauts if your term-prg can do it). Then you can go with 8-N-1. Only the first lines after login will contain strange signs, but you can always guess that it says "Host name:", "UserID:" and "Password:". After you have answered all that as usual (CI$ understands despite of your 8-N-1, but don't ask me why 🙂 ) normal display is resumed. greetings Joachim Sondermann on Amiga AutoPilot1.74 from Cologne, Germany

I get the same problem of nonsense characters flying across the screen when I log onto a certain BBs and then the modem hangs. I'm using an A2000 with GVP SCSI II 030 accelerator and Term 4.1 I guess I could try 7N1 but the BBS specifically says to use 8 N 1 when logging on. Any ideas? – via Whap!

In the Serial settings for that phone entry, check Strip 8th bit ON. This will strip the eighth bit and stop that garbage, even though you have settings of 8-N-1, which is what you prefer for most systems.

John, I had the same problem. Here is how I cured it. Go to the phonebook and select the BBS. Then under Settings, select Translations. Then from the Translation Table requester, select PC-8.prefs and save it. That cured the garbage characters for me. Dom Fontana –> Sent from NY via AP <–
