It IS a tough call. I, like the fool I am, parted with my money and have
ordered the upgrade. Hopefully it won't be too long before the promised
goods are delivered.
I believe that if one wants continued Amiga development one has to support
any initiative that arises with some hope that enough other people will do
so as well. Of course, any speculative money spent on Ami is a risk.

I think I'll have to wait until I see some comments about the Patch

Forgive me if I feel it's your intelligence at question here. Soft-Logik
has a proven record of delivering the goods, if not as early as we or they
would like. They have always tried to, and succeeded in, improving their
products and listening to what people want. Anybody who's ever done
software development knows that developers are never, ever given enough
time to deliver a solid program like they'd like. If it's not some boss
promising some unrealistic date, it's the pressures of getting to market
in time to get some business.
Pagestream3 is one of the most complex programs, if not the most complex,
ever written for the Amiga. To top it off, they're not even charging half
of what it's worth (OK, will be worth). Most people upgrading means even
less than that. In case you guys hadn't noticed, it's holocaust time.
These are trying times for anybody doing Amiga development. It's
relatively nothing for us users to switch platform. It won't be the end
of the world. For Amiga developers it can mean personal ruin at worst, no
job and a bleak future at best. Please stop whining like an infant and
look at the whole picture. The world consists of a little bit more than
our own little personal rooms, even if it's the only thing that matters to
us.
Where most people are bailing out or sitting on their thumbs to wait and
see what happens, these guys are putting in sixteen hour days to get you
what you want, and they still keep getting criticised and harrassed for
showing you they're truly working on something awesome you'll be able to
soon have in its entirety.
The read-me file states very clearly what is implemented and what isn't,
and the fact it's not finished yet means there's some bugs still around.
But there is so much more in the new product you can easily spend a month
learning all the new neat stuff, and setting up your DTP environment in a
way not possible in any other platform. In the meantime keep using 2.2
for production, knowing you'll be able to move all the stuff to 3.0 when
it's done.
I really wanted to curse some people out for their heartless assaults, but
that doesn't really solve anything and just creates more bad feelings.
Please understand Soft-Logik is between a rock and a hard place, they
still need to eat, pay mortgages and run a business, and are not trying to
take anybody out for a ride. If anything, they (and all Amiga developers)
have been taken for a ride by the big C=. They're just doing the best
anybody can do in the worst of possible times. Have a little faith and
reap the benefits of goodwill.

I for one agree with you and will remain patient. As you know, I have been
using pagestream in a business environment for years and i'm willing to
hang in there. I'ts just too bad that the "Commodore" seems to have gone
down with the ship!

If you'll be kind enough to check an earlier post of mine, I certainly
lauded Soft-Logik for their devotion to software development for the
Amiga.
I live with deadlines every day at work. I don't reap any special rewards
(other than bettering my career in the long run) for doing my job. My job
is to meet those deadlines. That's just a basic premise of the business
world today. It's not friendly – in fact, it's quite cut-throat.
I'm in the vehicle safety systems business. If I release a product from my
manufacturing line that has some shortcomings, someone will die (I'm not
complaining – I chose my job, and I enjoy it). Fortunately, Soft-Logik
doesn't have the same level of requirements, nor should they; but they did
take a business risk by releasing an uncompleted product. If it's
successful (as S-L's reputation indicates it will be), then that risk was
well-taken, and more power to them.
Be it right or wrong, we live in a customer-driven marketplace, where
people expect quality, and want it right the first time. All I've
expressed is my opinion that as a consumer, perhaps caution is adviseable.
Nothing more.
In fact, PageStream is looking better and better to me. I'm tired of
ProPage crashing, and I find SL's continued support of their products very
encouraging.
The 'big picture' is much bigger than both of us, I'm sure.

BTW, re your tagline… I couldn't agree more. Paranoia has kept me (and
my 2-wheeler) intact on more than one occasion!!

I know there's been some rumors throughout the years that I've made some
less than optimal decisions, but these are strictly lies by hostile,
jealous people trying to discredit me. Don't you believe them B-).
I believe in "spirited" driving on four wheels, which means go like
hell when traffic permits without giving somebody else a heart attack. I
especially like twisty hills. I'm very defensive on two wheels, the few
times I've been on them. Kinda feel vulnerable, not that I could really
make a mistake, but there's so many other people that could <g>.
