Went to a computer gathering in Toronto today. The ComputerFest is almost exclusively MS-DOS. The Commodore name was there, but not as we know it: I gather that some while back, Commodore licensed other manufacturers to put the C= label on their MS-DOS Merchandise. So there was a range of new MS-DOS computers: "Commodore 94 – A Generation of Change!" (well, I'll certainly have to go along with that). "3 Years Parts & 3 years Labor Warranty! First year on-site by Xerox!". Four intel-inside models on display ranging from a 486SX/33 (with CD-ROM, C$1598, about US$1250) to a Pentium DX/90. But the item that took me by surprise: the Commodore Fax Modem (MS-DOS, of course) for C$89, about US$65: 14.4K, V32bis & V42bis, Windows software included. Gosh, what's next? A Commodore CD-ROM? A Commodore cellular phone? A Commodore electric toenail clipper? –Jim

Oops! I had switched the the MS-DOS side of my brain (the dumb side) and wasn't thinking at all of the Amiga CD-ROM. You're right, of course. –Jim

Jim, C= Canada licensed to 3D Micro a while back. 3D says that even if C= disappeared completely they could keep on making C= PCs. I sat beside a C= filing cabinet today. 🙂 Malcolm

Malcolm, Should we tell 3D that the Commodore name isn't exactly a selling point these days? Marion

Marion, I'd buy a C= PC in a minute (if I'd buy a PC <g>). Always liked them, especially the keyboards. I don't think you got many C= PCs stateside but they were big here. My mother still uses a C= turbo XT. Many satisfied customers. Malcolm

Yup, we have a 3D Micro in town here that's been producing CBM PC's for awhile now. They're pretty good looking, for PC's clones. -= Vance =- Image Master Flying high on Imagine and Imagemaster R/t!
