#Importing skin mesh
3 messages in this thread
Gary,
Is there a list of any or all of the skinable meshes in the asoft
libraries? Could an (S) for skinable be appended to the "good" files by the
sysop? Perhaps someone like Greg Pyros, who has kindly made a list of all
IPAS's (including his own) could compile a list of all downloadable skinable
mesh files. Will older ones, ie. those made with 3DS R2 work? Who sells
skinable meshes now? There is no guarantee that Viewpoint will ever, unless you
have inside info. I will lobby, but in the meantime who's got good meshes?
Thanks, Sanford (I apologize for the non-sequiter
english here—I am not presently equipped with a built in grammer
checker.–Gary, you deserve much praise for your patient and detailed answers
on this Forum. I vote you answerman of the year)
Well, I just did a quick browse on SKIN in the DL's and this is what
I came up with:
LIB 4 – Mesh/Project Files !

Title : Psudeo-Branching Skin examples
Keywords: BRANCH SKIN EXAMPLE
This zip contains 2 small & simple project files & flics to demonstrate one
technique for faking Skinning a branching path (skeleton). Make sure
to select the CS's by name, one-by-one, to analyze the technique used.
Feel free to ask me any questions regarding it… BILL

GY: This is done by Bill Batchelor. A Skin expert and creator of the
cowboy sample file on Disk6. He'd be a great person to contact for skin
meshes (he's making them commercially now).

GY: Soldier and Alien were both done by Tim Miller of Sony Pictures
Imageworks. These are the most elaborate Skin models up here. The
basic technique HERE is that you build a skeleton under the slices,
and link each slice to the skeleton's appropriate piece. All the slices
are one color, and all the skeleton parts are another color. While
animating, hide the slices and just move the simple skeleton (with the
IK.KXP in r4, for example… which makes it easy). Then, just before
you render, hide the skeleton and unhide the slices. This technique
is also described by Martin Foster, along with a great skin model,
in the 3D Studio Special Effects book from New Riders that ought to
be shipping any day now.
LIB 5 – Images !
GY: Now, these are just images, but you might want to contact some of
the uploaders.

Keywords: STETZER DRAGON VAPOR SKIN IPAS JPG IMAGE
A scientific survey ship has discovered that the atmospheric capablities of
their craft were vastly overhyped by the salesmen. Will they escape? Will
they be burnt to a crisp? Done with 3DSr3 (w/vapor, skin, glow and flare
ipases), Vistapro 1.0, and CorelPhotopaint5. As always, comments welcome.

Title : Near-Seamless Female Skin Mesh
Keywords: SKIN SEAMLESS MESH
A couple of small renderings & a W/F screen dump of a female mesh in
progress. The model uses the techniques I illustrated in "Branch.zip" for
near-seamless joints, and is Skeletonal-driven. All natural joints are fully
articulated & no bump mapping was used. Yet the entire mesh is only about
3500 vert's. Sorry, no head yet. BILL.

3 times more for your money here with this montage! A trio of super hero
type characters of video game and comic book influence. 2 males and a female
of various (or unknown) ethnic backgrounds. Mostly created using slice and
skin IPAS3 routines based on the skin hero model I originally created and
donated to the Yost Group's IPAS3 disk #6 set. By Martin Foster comments
welcome.
