#Linking Toasters
4 messages in this thread
Our two vid depts are on the verge of a merge. So I quit to be a poet.<G> What
I want to know is are there any restrictions on how many toasters you can link
for rendering? We have 3 that we would want to link two 4000's and one 2000.
Also we have Ethernet, is it possible to link these from different buildings?
Our network is worldwide. Our rep says they both have to be in the same
building?? If it is possible would an ELan DFS on each do the trick?
thx

It depends on what you are using to do assign the rendering tasks. Most
places I know have proprietary software controlling their farms. I believe
that Enlan/DFS people have some type of rendering software, but I am not
familiar with it.

If your worldwide network can pass TCP/IP packets around, and you're content
with 'ftp' and 'rcp', then you can connect far-flung Toasters. If you try to
run something like Enlan-DFS, I suspect you may need clearance and/or
assistance from your network administrators to insure that its packets aren't
being cleaned from the repeaters and gateways. If these buildings are within a
few thousand feet of each other, there may be no problem at all. Ask your
network admins!
I will have to get in touch with them but the computer tech we have assigned to
us is worthless. He couldn't (wouldn't try) to get me a null modem adaptor and
I ended up going to Radio Shack and getting it myself. Whenever I want
something of importance I avoid him at all costs and go one step higher. No one
else here knows about Amigas except the two of us who actually do work on them
the rest of the staff is more admin and editing.
