Anybody have any thoughts as to how I might make a skinned brick — the kind with three holes in it?

>> Anybody have any thoughts as to how I might make a skinned brick — the kind with three holes in it? << most interesting …. why would you want to skin a brick? They are hard-edged objects, not really "skins" speciality. I suppose you could create a lofted rectangle, with 3 holes in it. Then try seeing how it looks without skin or, if you must, try skin on it in "use single object" mode. Play with the settings until you get what you want. Very strange <g>

Martin, <<why would you want to skin a brick?>> goo question—it's a prospective character for an animation I'm going to do. I've got to make it walk around an do other stuff. I would rather not pull verticies for hundreds of positions. <<I suppose you could create a lofted rectangle, with 3 holes in it.>> I've tried it already — no luck I think I might resort to a skinned rectangle with tex-mapped holes. But I'd really like to have 3D holes . . . hmmmmmm 🙂 thanks for the suggestion anyway

Kyle, It sounds like your brick would be better created as fine geometry and then deformed with RESHAPE or DEFORM or some other ipas. You could also try DISPLACE to get some interesting distortions. I don't think SKIN is what you need. Glenn Zephyr.

Glenn, Thanks, I'll give it a try. -Kyle

Glenn, I used deform and it worked great. I made a grid box, resized it, booleaned three holes out of it, then tessalated the mesh and used deform. now all I have to do is make the animation look real. sigh — I forsee many late nights in the distance. 🙂 thanks much! -Kyle

GlennM's suggestion of using deform or reshape is excellent – and he should know he's brought the most mundane objects to life 🙂
