There seems to a problem with 3ds and Premiere. I rendered an
animation as a series of Targa files with alpha channels, but when I
tried to load them into Premiere, the program crashed, and gave me a
general protection fault error. However when I opened the Targa
files individually in Photoshop and resaved them with Photoshop,
Premiere had no problem importing the sequence. This is fine, but
very time consuming. Does 3ds save their Targa files differently
then the Adobe programs.

do you need the alpha channels? If not, you might try the NO alpha or
alpha split option to give you 24-bit .tga files. See if Premiere
likes the 24-bit flavour.
3DS can save compressed TGAs, but Photoshop 2.5 only saves uncompressed TGAs.
I don't have Premiere for windows, but if compression is the problem, just
render without it turned on.
