Your hard disk is just a data disk until it has a special signal written on it that says, in effect, "boot from me". On a floppy disk, you write that signal with a command called INSTALL, and in earlier messages I thought that this command would work with the hard disk, too (it won't). SOMETHING is written on your hard disk, since when you attempt to boot from it you get a blank screen, rather than an "insert Workbench disk" picture. It seems likely to me that you will need to "re-install" your hard disk to get things sorted out. But you did get a message a day or two back suggesting that you go into a drawer called HDtools (or something like that) and see if you can fix things from there. Did you try it? Now, I can give you a series of commands that should get your hard disk into useful working condition, if you wish. For example, one would be ASSIGN C: HD0:C (assuming your hard disk Workbench partition is called HD0:). This would say, "Don't get your commands from the floppy Workbench disk any more; instead, get them from the hard drive". But such commands are a red herring. The main job we need to do is to GET YOUR HARD DRIVE BOOTING AGAIN! I don't have a 3.0 system (yet), so I can't offer to send you replacements for your system disks, which appear to be defective. But we can work on that, too. –Jim

JG >>I just need some sort of booting commands.<< If the HD's "Workbench 3.0" partition has all the Wb software (libs, devices, commands, etc.), you just need to set the boot flag. Assuming everything is intalled on the HD. – Open the HD's ICON. – Open the Tools drawer. – Open (run) the HDToolBox program. – Click on the PARTITION DRIVE button. – Make sure the DH0 (Workbench 3.0) partition is selected – Click on the BOOTABLE button. – click on the OK button – Then click on the SAVE CHANGES TO DRIVE button. – Wait a few seconds, for the save to finish. – reset the A1200, without a disk in the floppy. The DH0 partition should be booted from even if partition is empty. Note that the RAD: (RAM_0:) which survives resets, has a higher priority than the DH0 or floppy, and will be booted from if mounted. Make sure the RAD isn't in the DEVS:DOSDRIVERS, it can affect the booting if it is set to be bootable.
