#General Questions

As a new user of DTS there are several items that would appear to be simple,
however, a little help from y'all might just help out.
1. What is the EXACT syntax to add share.exe to the autoecec.bat?
2. One confusing aspect to the program is that there are apparently two
different ways to schedule phone calls, appointments, recurrring and other
events: with the Address book or the Calendar. It is not clear as to the
advantages of one over the other. If you have any advice or insight, it would
be greatly appreciated.
Thanks – Allan
Thanks for any help.

Allan,
To add share to your autoexec.bat, type "c:\dos\share.exe" in a line by itself.
Make sure this line appears before any line that launches Windows.
The advantages of scheduling events in the calendar is that they are always
easy to view by day (especially days other than today), and you can print them
out. You can set alarms to go off, but these won't occur unless calendar is
running. When you schedule a reminder in Address Book, you can easily look at
today's reminders, however it is a more involved process to find events on a
different day. The Reminders program in Address Book is easy to place in your
Startup group and have running in the background all day to set alarms off,
since it doesn't take up us many system resources as the Calendar, however you
can't print any events entered here. Generally, if there's a task I have to
remind myself to do weekly or daily (back up computers, that sort of thing),
I'll use the Reminders. If it's a one-time event, or some sort of meeting that
I have to schedule a time slot for, I'll use the Calendar. However you decide
to use the two is up to you.
Hope this helps.

Martine,
Thanks for you last response. Now I have a technical problem. When I use drag
and drop to import PERSONAL names and addresses into WordPerferct for Windows,
it only works when it wants to. I tried changing the PERSONAL template into the
ALT-key (Misc 2), but it was just as erratic.
The same problem occurs when doing the initial input into Address Book records.
That is, the BUSINESS template comes up, even when I hold down the Shft-key
before double-clicking.
Any suggestions?
Thanks – Allan
Dear Allan:
1) What do you mean by erratic? The names don't come across every time or the
wrong information comes across or what? 2) This is a bug – it has been reported
to development. In the mean time, select Edit/Residence to open the Home
information box directly from the Address Book.

Martine,
PMJI, I'm pretty sure that if one is using Windows for Workgroups 3.11 that
share.exe is not needed for DeskTop Set (although it might be necessary for
non-Windows programs).

Hank,
I think you're right, since I've tested it with and without for Windows for
Workgroups. Windows 3.1 isn't very happy without it. However, in the computer
world, "better safe than sorry" or something like that.

I tried palcing several items in my start-up group, however, instead of staying
in the folder, they remained on the desktop after minimizing the starup folder.
Any sugestions?
Thanks – Allan
Dear Allan:
I'm not sure I understand your question. Did you drag the icons from the
DeskTop Set group to the Start Up group, or did you create the icons again in
the Startup group. Have you selected the Run Minimized option in the
File/Properties.. dialog box for these programs that you have set to run on
Startup? If so, there will be icons on the Desktop after Windows opens. One
other thing I can think of – if you are trying to drag one of the icons that
signifies a program is running from the Windows Wallpaper into the StartUp
group, this is not possible. You need to drag the icons from the DeskTop Set
group into the Startup group.
Let me know if that didn't answer your question.
