#User Interface/Sugg.
5 messages in this thread
Hello Tracy —
Just a suggestion (after playing with DTS for a little while):
The user interface is just a bit below par, IMHO. The one thing that
can really cheese me off about Windows apps is when they don't conform to
already established application standards. For instance, the Help menu is in a
sub-menu under File — a true no-no! Help _always_ goes on the right of the
menus, elsewise, we get confused.
While I'm nitpicking, are there any plans to make the interface more
attractive? It's a bit stark and not too terribly pleasing, at least not
aesthetically. If one is to work in this all day, I think the option to have a
consistant, 3-D interface would be a nice one.
Anyway, these are (of course) just my opinions, though I would like to see some
updates soon. Even if Microsoft can't get Chicago out in time, they sure know
how to make it look really nice — a hint most companies would do well to take!
Thanks for your time.

Charlie,
Welcome to DTS! I've been a DTS user since 1990. I think most DTS users will
agree that some closer conformance to the now-accepted Windows User Interface
is desirable. Please keep in mind that at the time DTS was originally
designed, while standards had been published for the Windows User Interface,
Windows was still in its infancy. The designer/developer of DTS has worked
diligently towards increasing conformance to the Windows UI while maitaining
those attributes of DTS which differentiate it from its competitors. I've
often demonstrated DTS as the program that has best exemplified the potential
of the Windows environment.

Thanks for the reply (and the welcome)! I look forward to any improvements
that Okna will make — DTS has a lot of pormise; it just needs a bit more oomph
in the UI.

Thanks for the suggestion.
Our developers have a lot in store for the program in the near future.

Dear Charlie:
Stricter conformance to Windows standards is definitely on the way in the
upgrade due out 1st quarter 1995. It is also my understanding that they are
doing a bit of overhauling on the interface as well. We certainly hope you
stick around to see these changes.
